Was Coppell's decision not to pay out far more than certain player's were worth rather than not to spend any money at all?

Behindu It would be interesting to know if the club are pursuing any options to get players in before the window.
It's possible to do, and there will be lots of players out there that we COULD sign.
Whether they are the right players would be a huge question (and I'd be surprised if they were !) but would just be interesting to know if it's being looked at....

Last season:

http://www.soccerbase.com/transfers_by_ ... 6&x=19&y=7

Involving Premierleague clubs ...

El Zhar
Sutton (signed from no contract)
likewise Agathe
Kirkland (goalkeeper)

although that's not pretending to be definitive, its not stirring viewing, is it?

Who's gonna wanna join us in Jan? I would guess not half the players Coppell turned his nose up at this summer.

It's not anything to do with 2nd season, we lost Sid and Little this summer and have not replaced them with players anywhere near their quality. Coppell can say he made that decsion, but why? How could he think that a squad that was weaker was ok?

Will be a very interesting couple of weeks, Coppell's not had to deal with pressure for a long, long time now. Not here, not at Brentford, not at Brighton. He's got to react well to it now, in the past he hasn't.

There's only one way to motivate Coppell into making the correct decisions. In the time-honoured RFC way he should get soundly booed!!!

It worked with Andy Hughes and Seol, after all.

Coppell should just have a tommy tank, get rid of all that aggression.

If that doesnt work then he should chin Ron Grant - ive not been happy with the state of the kits this season.

I don't understand why people think that we'll suddenly be able to attract good players in January that will improve the team, especially if we are in a relegation place. The only players available will be overpaid and ageing or unproven. We may look to get players but I'll be very surprised if we make any significant signings.

We need to sort out how to play better with the current squad of players now, too many players are not playing as well as they did last season or the season before. The only real changes are Sid and Sonko. I'm hopeful that Coppell and his management team will sort it out now, as January will be too late.

.

Or loan players
Or overseas players looking to get a foot into the Prem
Or players not getting a game at their current clubs

Bear in mind they would all insist on a get out clause if the worst came to the worst...
We could well have more money to spend than anyone else in the lower reaches of the league remember...

But still probably either, overpaid, ageing or unproven.

Given that all Premiership players are over paid then agree on that

Given that from the moment we are born we are all aging then agree on that

Unproven ? Not sure I'd agree on that.

By overpaid I mean paid well above the current squad wages. That could have an unsettling effect. By ageing I mean a 33+ senior pro and either looking for a last contract or a step down to see out a couple of years. Unproven as in anyone from overseas or lower divisions.

I really can't see us getting a quick fix (like Les Ferdinand!), it's not the way the club work. They want young hungry players who will take time to learn how to play with each other.

We've signed young hungry players before who didn't seem to take much time to slot into the squad.

I don;t think it will be easy, competition for players is fierce and the lower league clubs know the Prem clubs have sackloads of money.

We'll take whatever we can get. Which with where we are and what we pay won't be much.

You can't defend Coppell this summer, by saying people are using hindsight to say we should have strengthened in the summer. It was blatantly obvious we needed to be doing more and there were enough people arguing that exact case on this board.

In fact the same people who argued the squad didn't need strengthening are the same people acussing everyone of panicking now.

LOL !

You can find people on hear arguing every mad cap idea - suggesting that because people ON HNA said something it must be true is not a strong arguement ....
