Leeds Halt Royals Recovery

Reading followed up excellent wins against Sheffield Wednesday and Wolves with a poor home defeat against Leeds United. The Royals had looked much improved recently under the guidance of Steve Clarke but were back to their old ways as they were brushed aside by an average Leeds side. Clarke chose to change the winning side around with Blackman and Norwood starting and Cox finding himself back on the bench.

Reading weren't too bad for the opening twenty minutes, but after that Leeds were in easy control of the fixture with Reading's game littered with mistakes. Leeds took the lead just after the hour mark and the impending defeat saw Cox hauled off the bench alongside Yakubu who made his Reading debut. Yakubu's appearance was a non-event as he had little involvement. Instead, Leeds wrapped up the three points with ninety minutes on the clock, making it 0-2.

Reading can't go up and won't go down. Fortunately we are still in the FA Cup which gives us our only shot at some excitement this season. A defeat at Derby on Saturday and it will feel that the season is already over. With Derby fighting for promotion a lot more rests on this game for Reading than the home side but it will be much more difficult than the visit of Leeds United.
