Royals Sign George Evans From Manchester City

19 January 2016
By Hob Nob Anyone?

Reading have confirmed the signing of midfielder George Evans from Manchester City. Evans signs on a three and a half year contract to keep him at Reading until the summer of 2019. Evans, at just 21 years old, fits firmly into the category of huge potential. Reading may have plenty of possibilities in midfield but Evans clearly remains an impressive signing. He has spent the season so far on loan at Reading's FA Cup fourth round opponents League One Walsall, but was recalled at the weekend sparking rumours of his move to Reading, which was confirmed today.

He has impressed at Walsall scoring on his debut in a 2-0 win at Barnsley and following it up with another strike his following game. Evans arrives at Reading after clocking up 16 appearances and 4 goals at Walsall. His penultimate match for the Saddlers was in the 1-0 win at Brentford in the third round of the FA Cup - so he will not be eligible to face his old side for the Royals in the next round.

Evans has progressed through the ranks at Manchester City and started the season by making his senior debut for City, coming off the bench as a late substitute in their League Cup win at Sunderland. He has also had loan spells at Crewe and Scunthorpe. Evans could make his debut this weekend as Sheffield Wednesday visit the Madejski Stadium.

Been on loan at Walsall and done well. City have recalled him and we're signing him permanently.

Class player judging by YouTube videos. Perhaps we'll loan him back to Walsall for the rest of the season?

Rather have Lee.

Yes, but only if he's capable of playing in the first team, in which case probably need to get rid of a couple this window.

So who is going?

 Super Kevin Bremner!

» 16 Jan 2016 23:08

Young, strong looking, box to box midfielder popping in goals in the third tier that we are getting from a top four premier league club?

Yes please.

Remind anyone of the last time we bought one if those?

Sounds a good prospect but if Quinn can't get in the team who will he replace? Personally I think its time Williams was dropped and add the pointless Kanu.

Williams is off then

No midfielders will leave. Just this kid is probably too good an opportunity to miss. Wouldn't surprise me if we tried to offer him to Walsall on loan for the rest of the season to help us sign Bradshaw.

Love the struggle pig but he's starting to frustrate me. Can't fault his work rate but he doesn't have the best footballing brain on him. Regardless of wether or not he stays or goes I'd like to see Quinn come in for him.

Norwood SHOULD be drawing some eyes from higher up. Surprised there's no rumors sniffing around him.

Believe he can also play as a centre back.

Will he count as the obligatory signing from a club we're playing the in FA Cup seeing as been on loan there nearly all season and had only just renewed the loan.

16 apps and 4 goals for Walsall this season, he obviously has played for them in the FA Cup (3 apps 1 goal) so won't be eligible for us in the unlikely event of any cup run.

One for the future maybe - or perhaps one for the bench this season?

Personally I'd start looking at next season and include players like Evans, Toshiba, Cooper, Bond as often as possible for the rest of this season.

Sounds a bit too good to be true with all the positives about him...what's the catch?

 RustyRoyal

» 17 Jan 2016 12:18

Possibly a buy-back clause?

» 17 Jan 2016 12:38

That'd be a brilliant signing yes please!

Supposedly Evans turned down a move to Brentford last week.....

There doesn't appear to be one. Don't know much about him but all the reports suggest he's a fantastic prospect and pretty level headed and down to earth. Sounds like his dad keeps his feet firmly on the ground.

Positive step forward if this comes off.

A player that speak English as well.

 CountryRoyal

» 17 Jan 2016 14:38

Just because he's English doesn't mean he can speak the damn language.

Ever heard Harry Kane talk? It's like an illiterate bafoon attempting to string a few basic words together, badly.

Reading nothing but good things about this fella. Will be super happy if it happens. Hopefully we get Bradshaw as well and finally get revenge for the playoff final.

We don't need another CM?

Isn't having spent the last 10-15 years at least a division above them enough?

What do we even have to get revenge for? Bit obssessive Pepe

Chill out Ian. It was a joke.

Hopefully he will be confirmed tomorrow
