Yann Kermorgant Signs From Bournemouth

21 January 2016
By Hob Nob Anyone?

Yann Kermorgant has been confirmed as Reading's latest signing as they continue to strengthen the squad during the January transfer window. Kermorgant follows George Evans who joined earlier in the week from Manchester City. Kermorgant also comes from a Premier League side as he departs from Bournemouth having scored 15 Championship goals for the club last season. French player Kermorgant is 34 years old and comes to Reading with plenty of experience after spells with Leicester, Charlton and Bournemouth in England. He has had a disappointing season so far, failing to score in any of his 7 Premier Leauge apperances. His single goal this campaign came in a 4-0 away win at Hartlepool in the League Cup.

Kermorgant signs for an undisclosed fee and joins on an 18 month contract. Reading will be looking to make use of his useful goal scoring record at Championship level - he played an important part last season in the Cherries promotion out of the Championship. He signed for Bournemouth two years ago and went on to make 69 appearances, scoring 27 goals. He joined Bournemouth from Charlton where he scored a further 32 goals over two and a half years. Reading will be hoping that he hits the ground running - on his arrival in England in 2009 at Leicester he struggled to make an impact and scored just a single goal in his first season despite making 25 appearances for the Foxes. That disappointing season saw him return to France for a year before Charlton signed him.

Reading manager Brian McDermott expects Kermorgant to play a major role this season - perhaps linking up with Matej Vydra who scored a hattrick in Tuesday night's 5-2 FA Cup win over Huddersfield Town: "In Yann we have an experienced striker with an excellent record and a player who will be able to work with our young players at the club and be a good centre-forward in the team we are trying to develop here at Reading. I am really looking forward to working with him."

Free to leave after Afobe's arival, seen on Twitter that we're linked, along with Brum, Bristol city and 3 other champsionship teams. Could be a Jason Roberts sort of signing.

In what way could it be a Jason Roberts sort of signing?

Roberts was a player with a pedigree of scoring goals where ever he went and was vastly experienced at the highest level of English football. Kermorgant has had a two or three good seasons in the Championship, has never done anything at PL level and at 34 you think he can step back down to the Championship and pick up where he left off in a new team?

Unless you mean we'll pay him for two and a half years whilst getting six months of actual service and a handful of goals. In which case, yay. Not.

Kermogant scores goals, as did Roberts. Kermogant could come in and score goals which could help boost our squad, which is what Roberts did.

Was thinking about him last week. Would take him until the end of the season, or end of next. No longer though.

So any player who scores goals is a Jason Roberts sort of signing? I think you might have to refine your comparisons a bit, they're a touch broad.

Why don't you stop questioning everything I'm saying? Perhaps if you stopped being pedantic you'd know what I was saying. We signed Roberts in January which sparked great form for us. I was simply suggesting that kermogant could do that. Most normal people know what I'm saying.

I wouldn't want him. Remember that pen at Cardiff for Leicester in the playoff semis?!

Tried to chip it straight down the middle, was woeful and lost the game for them iirc.

Shame both Leicester and Kermorgant are now languishing in the second tier....

Well he must be doing well to be benched every week and being linked with Reading

Decent player but no more than a stop gap. If we could get him for 500k or less he'd be worth a punt surely?

If he were to have the same impact as a certain elderly Jimmy Quinn who was then past his sell-by date at Bournemouth then we should welcome him with open arms.

If we're poaching veteran surplus to requirements strikers from Bournemouth, I'd rather have Glenn Murray.

Can score and assist. Seems good with his head and even scored from a corner!!

Plus he scored a bicycle kick, and that makes him ten times better...
