Tyler Blackett and Liam Moore Confirmed

22 August 2016
By Hob Nob Anyone?

Reading have confirmed the signings of Liam Moore from Leicester City and Tyler Blackett from Manchester United as Stam strengthens his defence.

Blackett, 22, signs a three year contract with the Royals after spending last season on-loan at Celtic. After signing professional terms with United in July 2013 he went on loan to Blackpool and then Birmingham before returning to Manchester to become a regular in the first team squad in the 2014/2015 season. He immediately picked up a full 90 minutes to start the season and went on to make 12 appearances for the Red Devils that season.

Central defender Liam Moore has gone one better and has secured a four year contract to move from Leicester to the Royals. Despite making over 60 appearances for Leicester City, Moore failed to make a Premier League appearance last season as his club won the title. He was forced to settle for a single League Cup appearance before moving to Bristol City on loan. He faced the Royals in two games last season as Reading picked up six points over his loan club. Moore, 23 years old, had an extended run in the Leicester side in the 2014/2015 Premier League season and followed it up with appearances for the England Under 21 side in their European Championship campaign. He has also had loan spells at Brentford and Bradford City.

The two new additions to Jaap Stam's squad bring his total signings up to eleven as he has effectively rebuilt the team over the summer. The latest signings continue the theme of young players with bags of potential and both players already have plenty of experience at the highest level of English football.

It seems that the mirror is reporting that Jaap Stam is trying to get defender Tyler Blackett on loan from Machester Utd. A fairly obvious link, so it may well just be paper talk, but if it's true, then what happened to no longer relying on loan players? If it is true, then this is a player who helped to concede 5 goals in one match, got sent off, and scored an own goal - all in just 12 starts. Is this someone that we would want anyway?

He sounds mental ... so just the kind of player JS would sign!

Brian McDermott was sacked, that's what happened.

Tyler Blackett is class and would be a good signing for our level. Definitely would welcome him alongside McShane or in a 3 in the formation Ian Royal suggested last week.

He went on loan to BHAM right? My Brummie friend said he was shit there...

happy to have him as back up to mcshane gravenberch and cooper
less happy if he is to replace a departing cooper.
happiness would increase slightly if cooper went for a huge fee, and this deal was with a view to buy
but still...

I'd be more concerned that he spent the whole of last season on loan to Celtic and appears to have managed the princely total of 4 starts and a handful of sub appearances in that time.

Isnt he a full back rather than a central defender? Obvs. depends on what formation Stam has in mind but if that is the case might he more likely be competition for Obita or Gunter

suspect he might be better than Cooper and Gravenberch?? Just a hunch given he's played for Man Utd whereas Cooper and Gravy haven't

That message has continued under Stam.

Nothing wrong with loan players as long as they a brought in sparingly i.e no more than 2 at any one time and are brought in with a clear and realistic view to purchase or actually really are emergency loans

Sun reporting that there maybe some truth in this rumour.

Indeed, in recent years see: Bertrand, Leigertwood, Khizanishvili and the legend that is Gorkss (nods to Leon).

Griffin. Going back further, Hahnemann and Little started as loans too didn't they?

Of the more recent ones, there's a clear link for most of them. But we sacked him a month or so ago.

Suggests to me that if this deal happens it may well be permanent rather than a loan.

Wonder if the Liam Moore deal would still be a going concern ?

So this would be on a perm?

Would prefer this to Moore actually.

Man Utd want to cash in on him, not sure what he would command but I can't see it being a loan deal

I'd imagine they'd be happy with a deal focussed primarily on add ons and a sell on.

He can play centre half or left back - two positions we need so i'm all for this one

Plus he's big and black which is a bonus

Worse than Cummings when we first signed him,t he Cummings that we had to demote to the u21s.

Could come good, given time and experience but given how shaky our defence is I don't want another player we need to be massively developing at this stage to come in.

Not convinced by him. A season loan to the Scottish Premier and he spends the second half of it playing with the U20s.

That's not to say he won't develop into a decent player but Aaron Kuhl had a more successful loan spell in Scotland last season and the Dundee Utd fans thought he was shit.

So Tyler would be our left back (and additionally provide centre back) cover. Anyone seen enough to think he'd be a better option than Obita at LB?

 CountryRoyal

» 20 Aug 2016 16:02

I was always under the impression he was CB. Don't think he has the physical attributes for a left back.

Having signed Moore. This looks like primarily cover for LB. Would be an excellent addition to the squad if signed permanently.

I was sat behind someone on the train home and they were on the phone telling whoever was on the other end that Blackett was at the stadium for the match today.

Obviously that is about as inconclusive a source as I could give and I have no idea if he saw him himself or was just passing on a rumour...

Presume he'd fancy his chances of getting straight in the side after watching Obita have a tough time and VDB get himself sent off.
