Revival Suffers Blow At Spurs

Reading's mini-revival suffered a set-back after a 1-3 away defeat at Spurs. After impressive defensive performances had earned Reading four points from a possible six, without letting a goal in, this was again all about keeping it tight at the back and hoping for a goal on the break. The goal came early on for Reading, and although Reading worked hard in defence they conceded three times. Reading took the lead after Pogrebnyak scored his second early goal in two fixtures, after hitting the winner against West Ham United. Pogrebnyak won a free-kick on the edge of the box, Harte's effort was hit firmly against the crossbar and Pogrebnyak was on hand to head home the rebound.

The lead was short lived, and Spurs were level at 1-1 with ten minutes on the clock. Reading kept to their game plan and frustrated the home side who, despite their superior possession, resorted to long range efforts for much of the first half. Federici was still on hand with another good performance to keep it level. After the break Spurs pulled ahead, but rather than fold, Reading had their best spell of the game. The Royals had chances to equalise before Spurs scored a third to put the game beyond Reading.
