Re: (Bad) memories of that game in 1995

This wasn't to do with all-seater requirements - this was more to do with the overall state of the ground, I think, including its capacity of around 13,000. There were 13323 at the Bolton league game and the place was stretched to the limits. ISTR TVP were very unhappy with the idea of sold-out PL ...

Re: (Bad) memories of that game in 1995

Still the worst I've ever felt after a game - have still never watched the game back either. The football played from 93 - 95 was brilliant and that team deserved it's shot in the Prem. Would have been great for Elm Park to have it's season in the sun too! So many great performances that year but t...

Re: (Bad) memories of that game in 1995

Would have been great for Elm Park to have it's season in the sun too! ... Almost certainly that wouldn't have happened. I think the most likely thing, as reported at the time, was ground-sharing with QPR, which would have been simply horrible and might have ended up with us losing Elm Park with no...

Re: Official RFC Clownovic Day. The protest thread

One of my main recollections was when quite a few of us went on the pitch at Elm Park having been trounced by Palarse, 6-0/6-1, something like that. Johnny Mad took the mike and promised us the world. And to be fair, compared to what we've got now, the bloke did alright  6-1 loss home to Pala...

Re: Mike Conroy

Pathetic dismissal of the huge achievement of 2 promotions and a Cup competition in which we beat 3 top flight teams - all in the space of 5 years. He may have been limited but he was a very successful manager for us. Oh, and I’m not usually one of those tedious pedants with such an empty life that...

Re: 25 years ago today

Worst ever football day! Would have been amazing at Elm Park in the Prem. Taylor report gave you 3 years grace allowing standing areas from the time you got promotion to Division 1 (Champ now) so no problem with standing at EP had we gone up. Would have been absolutely rocking if we had made it. Tha...

Re: Old Reading Footage on VHS/film/Youtube

Used to have the full match 1st round Simod Cup QPR v Reading (1-3) on VHS (got from QPR) but has sadly long since disappeared with a load of other vintage footage left at my parent's house and victims of a brutal clearout..

Re: The Zenith Data Systems Cup

Reading's greatest ever cup run, some of the most unlikely victories, biggest shocks, and for once, a happy ending. The stats of that cup run are pretty incredible - in winning the cup, Reading beat 5 top flight teams - 4 would end up in the top 10 of Division 1 (the Prem in new money) with QPR and...

Re: BFTG -Crawley

Was really looking forward to standing again but ruined by complete tools at the front. Shame on the guys racially abusing the asian steward - horrible to see from a Reading end. Shame also on the couple of 40+ year old hard looking bald f*ckers trying to have a go at the wee lad stewarding in front...

Re: Reap what you sow

[ ...but maybe 3 to 4 million on a new striker and at least one new defender could hardly be breaking the bank... £3 - 4 million in transfer fees, what about the wages? A player signed for that amount is going to be asking c£10k - £12k a week easily, if not more, on a minimum 3-year contract. Say by...

It's Over..

So, another play off campaign ends in familiar and utterly soul-destroying fashion. Undoubtedly, there were clear people to blame today - those in the back four whose name isn't Matt Mills, I'm talking about you. In fact, I'm positively furious about your performance, nothing to do with the referee,...

Re: The Southbank sit down protest

I remember it well. A diabolical 3-1 defeat after Beavon had put Reading ahead. Results had been so poor that the South Bank had had enough. Each Notts County goal was cheered by the South Bank - utterly bizarre but the main aim was not a Reading win but to get Branfoot out. It wasn't the only game ...

Re: Back from the game (LIVERPOOL)

Stonewall penalty for me. Benayoun took the man, and didn't get the ball. It doesn't matter how hard you kick someone (or if/how the fouled player falls over), if you don't get the ball it's a foul. People (particularly Beglin on the commentary team) seemed to be getting very muddled about the rules...

Re: Kebe Vs Gilkes

Think Gilkes' contribution is being a little bit undervalued by some here. Sure, the 1980's Gilksey was prone to hitting the Tilehurst End with every other cross, but as time went on his final ball improved immensely. If anything he relied less and less on his pace as he improved. By the 93/94 champ...

Re: Club Financial Statement

Sorry, just getting back to my first point regarding player sales during 2006-8. Are people suggesting that the £10.6 million stated by the club as being invested on players is a net figure taking into account the sales of Shorey, Kitson, Sonko etc? Or is this just the figure spent on player purcha...
