Re: for the first time in living memory...

It isn't unknown for the teams coming up to do well, at least in their first year. They have the momentum of success behind them. For instance, we came fourth in our first year up, and, but for Fozzie's injury, might even have won the play-offs. Leicester came up this season and, look where they are...

Re: Has BMc proved Coppell wrong?

Maybe he has. it seems to me that it is all about confidence, and he has played most of the squad at one time or another, so that they all have a taste of what it is like to win. Under Coppell, what, in fact, were the reserves found a lot of confidence but they had to use it and do well in the reser...

Re: Shane Long - in defence!

I seem to remember that when he was about 14, Shane was a junior high-jump champion in Ireland. The height he gets in his jumps has been noticeable ever since he has been at the club; the first goal he got for us at Derby County was a great leap!

Re: Rodgers - let us all get some perspective

Part of the problem imho is one of heightened expectations due to where we were only a couple of seasons ago, and a difficulty for some posters to realise that getting to that position took a lot of time and effort, with failures mixed into successes, and cannot be replicated overnight. I find it o...

Re: Rodgers - Success? Failure? How long?

We expected a rough ride at first. You can't get rid of practically a complete team and weld a new team together especially when the strongest members of the old team are injured. The lads are playing nice football but lack the experience to change things on the pitch the way Coppell's team could do...

Re: Who Was At The Game Last Night?

I think the word for those of us there last night was "frustrated" - at least the team must have felt so. The passing was so much more accurate than it has been and, as on Saturday, we would have at least drawn if it were not for their 'keeper. Although disappointed, I and my family all fe...

Re: Season/Team Fears & Concerns - Season Review Pending

I am happy that we have enough youngsters, not only to form a team, but enough to cover for injuries now that we have a few more experienced players. My hope is that BR will soon figure out his best team and we can climb up the table. We may not get to the top, but we can encourage the feeling that ...

Re: Harper Appreciation Thread

He seemed always ready to talk to fans. When we were compiling the Fans' Calendar a few years ago and had to go to the training ground to get some of the shots(in the days of Sonning Lane) he was the only one who seemed interested and took the trouble to ask us about it. I always felt that some peop...

Re: Back from the Sweden games... well 2 of them

W Also, many many people were posting that "Look how well Lita has done at Norwich - he SHOULD be back in the side". How many people were also calling for a "Kitson-type" replacement; then Kitson reappears and very few people objected to his return for footballing reasons (his co...

Re: Who has been the best club captain over the recent years?

I wouod have to go for Graeme Murty, not only for his spirit and encouragement of players on the pitch (after all, Parky had that) but for his other talents and contribution to the club. He has also supported his wife and some of the other wives in their support of charities, in particular, his &quo...

Re: Who is Readings most deadly goalscorer of all time?

I am glad somebody remembered Ronnie Blackman. Unfortunately his era was too early for us to be able to watch any film of him. I hope I am right in thinking that in his day they played with a leather ball which can't have made it easier.

Re: I don't understand where it went wrong

The players DO know about the lists, the emails, the local radio phone-ins Doyle said so yesterday. So (for example) if rumour goes round that Coppell has lost the changing-room do we really think that has NO effect on morale? Worse if it's a lie. We hounded Harper out of the team, SHunt out of the...

Re: Negativity - Whats Going ON!

Don't forget that the play-off against Bolton was the result of our coming second in the league. Forget the fact that we should have gone up by right and look at the facts of that season. If we had not won the last four games of the season while Wolves drew the last four, and our other close rivals,...

Re: James 'The Crab' Harper

Now if Mick Gooding see's this potential and it is displayed when training then the question with Harps is does he lack the confidence to be assertive enough in the field of play when it counts. Admittedly he has shown this on occasion recently. He has shown he can take players on (Liverpool last s...

Re: Back from the game...

[This was a good example of a team working together although conditions were far from perfect. Watford played a beautiful passing game, (as one would expect, with their new manager) but they stood very little chance of scoring unless one of their long shots had 'got lucky'.

Re: Why Should Feds warm the bench

I have to say that's one thing we haven't seen from Fedders, the ability to keep us in the game if the opposition are better. Last season Marcus had some dodgy games, but he was brilliant at the 0-0 against Man Utd, he kept us within a fighting chance with the home game against Fulham and made some...

Re: Kevin Doyle to stay?

Why is there even a discussion of this, it's been stated categorically by many posters on this very board that Doyle (and of course Steven Hunt, Bikey, probably Noel, UNcle Tom Cobbley and all) is definitely leaving in January. They couldn't be wrong, could they? Why is there even a discussion of t...
