Re: The New Manager Poll

I hope they started considering options when Clarke asked to speak to Fulham. Obvious options are Coppell and Pearson, but would Coppell return? I doubt if he'd return, but I'd happily be proved wrong, Pearson off field history with Thais probably rules him out, but his experience and history in the...

Re: Reading FC - this is embarrasing

JFK said “It is not always easy. Your successes are unheralded -- your failures are trumpeted." [Speech at CIA Headquarters, November 28, 1961] The song and PA guy are a small price to put up with if it makes the owners' happy and shows the owners' commitment off the field as the benefits of h...

Re: RUMOUR - Cox to Swindon

After the Everton match: http://www.getreading.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/reading-fc-boss-steve-clarke-10125707 Reading FC boss Steve Clarke: "It's up to Simon Cox to decide his future" Simon C still gives Steve C options if he wants someone to play just off the main striker, but S...

Re: Team for Everton (H) - League Cup

Is Simon Cox injured? Virtually all the above suggested squads omit Cox, is this is a match where Cox would expect to play off someone like Blackman or HRK? (not saying that this would be a good opition) but it does imply that Cox is not even figuring in "supporters" selection let only the...

Re: PA announcer

soccer :| stopped reading after this Surprised you fell for the use of soccer - the origin of the word “soccer”. For all you out there who love to complain when Americans, and certain others, call “Football”, “Soccer”, you should know that it was the British that invented the word and it was also o...

Re: BFTG . Derby

Odd that the description above is consistent with the action taken by the officials. What action would you have taken ? And why would you assume the highly trained neutral professional is wrong whilst the untrained and unqualified partial observer ( who may also be reporting what they believed they...

Re: BFTG . Derby

On the SA Incident... I was in line and got a good view. Not sure what started the whole thing but Shackle (sp?) gave a load of verbal and was very intimidating, moving towards SA. He then "chest-butted" SA who stood his ground. Shackle then pushed his forehead at SA. Not a head-butt exac...

Re: BFTG . Derby

But you stick with the idea that based on experience rather than observation you would send off two players if just one of them had been seen to be guilty of violent conduct ? Clearly the officials worked out that there was a 'reason' why Sa acted the way he did, hence the yellow card shown to Shak...

Re: BFTG . Derby

Well Peter if you are an experienced ref your comments are even more bizarre. Are you really suggesting that you would see or be advised of a player striking another and automatically send both off because you assume both had committed a violent conduct offence ? Surely you punish what you and your...

Re: BFTG . Derby

It was effectively the lino/assistant ref who sent off Sa. The ref wasn't even looking in the direction of the incident when it happened. I can only assume that his assistant spoke to him over the radio link and said something like 'Head butt by Reading 10". The ref then decided that was good ...

Re: Best Keeper

Death, Hislop and Hanhnemann were equally good at controlling the penalty area, making reflex saves, risk getting kicked, catching the ball rather than just pushing it away to another attacker, and making fewer errors than others like Feds, McCarthy, Bond etc.

Re: PA announcer

As most attend the match are interested in soccer why can't the club just: - show previous match highlights pre-match and first half highlights at half time? - have Radio Berkshire team broadcast in the stadium pre-match and half time? - have Sky or BBC TV round up broadcast at half time? The half t...

Re: BFTG . Derby

That's ok, I don't. Lots of opposition fans post on our boards and are welcome, makes for better and more balanced discussion. Suppose nobody usually cares enough to pay you a visit? I only bothered because I'm local and was interested in your fans thoughts. Clearly loves Derby so much he/she moved...

He is clearly going for a NASPAA (is the professional association for sports public address announcers and the individuals who hire and assign announcers.) nomination, unfortunately that is USA based and he is in the UK, so may be someone should tell him to try for an American soccer team. https://w...

Re: BFTG . Derby

So Tshibola gets, perhaps rightly, booked but then several Derby players got away with equally bad challenges before and after that. Worse still was the way that Blackman was cynically bundled over from behind when he was racing through the middle, in possession of the ball and about 30 yards from ...

Pearce to get a place on the bench as Baird is injured, his inside Reading knowledge is bound to be a help to Derby as he knows Gunts, Obita, Norwood and Blackman from last season, He won't know Blackman, Different player from previous seasons :D Most of last seasons team are not current first team...
