Re: Coronavirus outbreak

I should add that we are betting on lockdowns etc slowing the exponential rise, then stopping the rise, then, eventually seeing a decline in daily cases. In the previous post I was trying to illustrate the evil of exponential growth when unchecked. Remember we are seeing this growth despite severe ...

Re: Coronavirus outbreak

Yeh and where do you think the majority of those deaths come from? Italy and Spain? Or countries with atrocious healthcare? Countries which as of yet haven't even started with this virus. There are obviously some problematic areas but don't be fooled in to thinking we are immune. Have you ever once...

See my edit above. Where does your figure of 1.8 million kids under 5 dying come from? UNICEF Yeh and where do you think the majority of those deaths come from? Italy and Spain? Re: Coronavirus outbreak

If the death toll remains under 500,000 (it won't) it will only be because we intervened and isolated on mass scale with 1/4 of the world currently in isolation and China having just come out. This virus has killed at 20,000 people in 4 months since it first came into existence. This is believing C...

Re: Coronavirus outbreak

when this is over and the death toll remains well under 500,000 I hope you donate to some worthy causes. but by then the risk to YOU will be over, so hey ho, back to normal and ignore all the other horrific death rates that could at the very least be reduced If the death toll remains under 500,000 ...

Re: Coronavirus outbreak

Thankyou for summarising your ‘arguement’ so we don’t have to waste time with it. The internet is full of scientific explanation of why this is not just like seasonal flu. You seem to be in a minority of 2 and when the other one is Trump you know you are in trouble. It’s a sad reflection when someo...

Re: Coronavirus outbreak

because we ignore hundreds of thousands of deaths per year. Its very simple. for this nonsense which will not overtake flu we destroy the world economy which will kill even more than covoid. 3 million died from pneumonia last year, where is the lockdown, where is the panic? Only one number is import...

Re: Coronavirus outbreak

More people have died after testing positive from coronavirus in Italy than anywhere else in the world - despite the stringent lockdown measures in place.

What does that tell us?

Germany has 5 times more infected persons than us but one third the deaths.
What does that tell us considering we haven't reached icu overload yet?

Re: Coronavirus outbreak

Thats not what I am saying. I am questioning the sudden rise in morality for a virus that will ultimately kill less people than flu. Coronavirus is already killing at a rate 17 times season flu, and that is ON TOP OF the seasonal flu deaths So, right now we are at an 18-Fold increase in deaths, and...

Re: Coronavirus outbreak

But these are future debates. The idea that we should sacrifice half a million people to protect the economy is immoral and vile; I'm pretty sure we all know somebody vulnerable who would essentially be sentenced to death following that approach. Get a grip people. Well said Thats not what I am say...

you now have the european centre for disease prevention and control criticising european governments for closing borders etc.
They also criticise the different national approaches to covoid being influenced by politics.

Re: Coronavirus outbreak

You are showing an incredible degree of naïveté snowball you are showing an incredible degree of panic. Death is death. So when this is over and the death total doesn't match the annual flu death rate, please justify destroying the world economy. 114 deaths in 9 days has no meaning. Were 120 people...

Re: Coronavirus outbreak

state of play:

flu deaths this winter (so far) = 109,000 (no lock down, no panic and happens every year)
Corona virus deaths (so far) = 14,700 (lock down, massive panic, destroying world economy, one off event)

Re: Coronavirus outbreak

but still a 100,000 behind the amount of flu deaths this winter. Nobody cares about flu.
And next year flu will come back again as it did last year and claim hundreds of thousands more.

Why do governments ignore that?
Why do we find that acceptable?

Re: Coronavirus outbreak

China has a population of 1.4 billion yet suffered only 3,261 deaths so far. Panic leads to irrational decision making. between 250,000 and 600,000 have been dying of flu each year for many years and we do nothing. Without understanding how many people have actually been infected (not just tested) w...
