Re: The Academy/Development squads watch thread 2015//16

That's the advantage of being retired and living 15 minutes from Adams Park. Set up more or less as you said. Legg looks a bit inexperienced to be on the bench at first team games but after 20 minutes he didn't have too much to do. Conditions were pretty awful with rain most of the time but they sti...

Re: The Academy/Development squads watch thread 2015//16

Back from the game. Team Legg, Watson, Dickie, Osho, Richards, East, Meite, Rinomhota, Mendes, Frost, Novakovich with Barrett coming on near the end. 1-0 down after 7 minutes following a corner where we were slow to come out after the ball was pinged away. After about 20 minutes Legg picked up a bac...

Re: Where Will We Finish This Season?

We're taking the homeopathic approach to football planning. The weaker the squad becomes, the more effective we will be.However, with rumours of signings now realistically emerging I see Bet 365 is offering 20:1 for 1st with 1/4 for placing 2 and 3. Have just decided a modest E/W bet is worth it.

Re: Back from the game - Watford

Have to smile at the Reading OS. According to them we were so pleased with the Pog's performance we were singing his name. All I remember is singing "Big f-cking Russian, we've got a big f'cking Russian" several times.

Re: Match Fixing

Can't see this as matchfixing. Sodje wasn't in the team, nor expected to be and only came on when Murty was unexpectedy injured. Not only that, but his second yellow card was very suspect since it occurred after Rooney had been flagged offside.

Re: Fans forum?

I've been to a number of these but this was, for me, the best. To my surprise, the turnout was the biggest I have seen, it had to be delayed as more seats were brought in. Nigel Adkins spoke more knowledgably about the game than any of the other managers I have heard before and this together with hi...

Re: Pre-Season Games - Portugal

The only game I saw Obita play on loan was for Oldham against Everton in the Cup. He scored one, hit the post and ran them ragged.

They ran away with League 2 to get into the League 1 this season. A good test as friendlies can produce.

Re: Not much money in the summer

Actually it more than doubled. 2005/6 £14.2M 2006/7 £29.8M 2007/8 £33.1M. A real problem is our relative income compared to other Premiership clubs. With a relatively small fan base and crowds our income is a lot smaller than most, unlike the championship. So to compete we have to be a little differ...

Re: What the papers say: Chelsea

I have to say that from where I was sitting I had no idea the Torres goal was offside. But I saw no Reading fan leave early and at the end fans and team cheered each other as though we had won.

Re: Agents fees

Green The figures on transfers quoted in the Swiss ramble is net, ie what we get minus what we spend. Thus we get a lot more for players than we spend and were one of the most successful teams in the division at doing this. That allows us to pay competitive wages which our normal income cannot affor...

Re: Agents fees

We tend not to pay a lot for players. As The Swiss Ramble ( a blog on football finances ) stated, in the last 4 years up to 2011, we were in the bottom 4 for net transfer spend (just below Watford), yet in the top six for wages. Our wages bill the year before last for the football side was around £1...

Re: Three To Go Down

Oddschecker have Reading, Southampton and Norwich as those to go down with Reading favourites to finish last. They also have McD as the sixth favourite prem manager to be sacked first with Allardyce as the favourite.

Bookies, eh!

Re: Thames Sports Investment

Madjeski has said in the past that we have had offers from big talking "entrepreneurs" but that each time the question "Show us the money" is asked the opportunity fades away. It's the first thing the Board looks at. Our history with Madjeski is to occasionally doubt something he...

Re: Back from the game (or Watching Sky)

I just didn't want to leave the stadium. First few minutes a very loud home side singing we are top of the league. Great cross from Jimmy and power header from Roberts and we are singing we are top of the league. Second half, Southampton start like an express train, score and for the next half an ho...

Re: Building A Squad Ethos/The Academy

Surprised noone's mentioned our sticking with 4-4-2, now becoming obsolete elsewhere. I remember the past manager of Luton (Mike Newell) saying of our 2005 side that we play the same way each time but we're so good at it it's hard to beat. Poyet said before the Brighton game that there are no surpri...

Re: Back from the game - Brighton (A)

I'm not sure I can take another 4 games like that. Brighton passed the ball around impressively and controlled several periods of the game so I just hope they play like that against West Ham in a few days time. There was little of the play acting they showed at the MadStad and Feds was my man of the...
