Re: Enjoying or hating the no football era?

I agree mate I was just playing around, pretending your not-before-November was an argument for why it couldn't have been Xmas day. Noone plays football on Xmas day unless you're in the trenches. 25 December 1957 - Bournemouth 4 Reading 1 - our last Xmas Day match. Did 'em 2-0 in the return the nex...

Re: Enjoying or hating the no football era?

Not before November? It definitely can't be Xmas Day then. Eh? There was interest in setting up football clubs locally in Nov / Dec 1871 - because the FA Cup had just started with Marlow and Maidenhead competing. Henley were formed about this time. It's theoretically possible that Reading could hav...

Re: Enjoying or hating the no football era?

Christmas Day, 1871. This is an internet myth as far as we know. There is no contemporary evidence of a foundation date or meeting. Extremely unlikely it would have been before Nov 1871. Not before November? It definitely can't be Xmas Day then. Eh? There was interest in setting up football clubs l...

Re: Enjoying or hating the no football era?

150th anniversary of our first game is 21 Feb 2022. All is not lost. On the 100th we were relegated to Div 4 for the first time (1971) and finished in our lowest Div 4 position in 1972. See what you mean about our luck! Thanks for that, lets hope by Feb 2022 we are all healthy and we can enjoy the ...

Re: Enjoying or hating the no football era?

May or June is wishful thinking I'm afraid. If football by some miracle returns by that time then it will be behind closed doors. Yes, and next year is our 150th anniversary... It will be just Reading's luck to find that football does not return to 2022!! 150th anniversary of our first game is 21 F...

Hall of Fame 2020 postponed

Just in case anyone missed the post on the Team board or the announcement via other STAR media …

… the Hall of Fame event scheduled for 23 March has been postponed. We were all ready to go with it but now we'll have to wait until the autumn. We'll try and re-fix for October 2020.

Re: STAR's RFC Hall of Fame 2020

Not surprisingly, and with great regret, STAR has to announce the postponement of the Hall of Fame event, planned for Monday 23 March.

We will try and fix a new date for the autumn.

Re: Royals on the Box/Internet Thread

Here's a new way of depressing live attendances. Anyone know what the financial arrangements are for this transmission? Any fee to the competing clubs? Competing clubs have any say? There will be plenty of fans who for good reasons can't make it to the game and this is a bonus for them. And the anno...

Re: Worst crowd

Red Button There is considerable concern amongst some Championship clubs about the red button. They feel that, to some extent, they may have been dealt a poor hand by Sky. The upfront product offered was I-Follow from which the clubs gain a direct financial benefit and information on the viewers buy...

Re: Worst crowd

Reported attendances. Both tickets sold and numbers through the turnstile data are collected and the club can choose which to issue. The situation has been confused by clubs have differing policies on this at the same time. Liverpool were slow to use tickets sold, for instance. Information gained vi...

Re: Elm Park Years

In terms of attendances at EP, whilst an incredible 24,046 (the official recorded attendance) squeezed in for the Southampton cup game in 1978 - I was there and remember just seeing a sea of heads - just how they got 33,042 in there for the record gate against Brentford in 1927 in a largely 'the sa...

STAR's RFC Hall of Fame 2020

It's exactly a month to the day to STAR's Reading FC Hall of Fame annual event when we'll be inducting 25 more people. The event is free and open to all (not just STAR members). It takes place at the Princess Suite, Madejski Stadium on Monday 23 March, doors open from 7.30pm for 8pm start. There'll ...

Re: Elm Park Years

I've seen somewhere on this thread one poster wishing he had the programme for his first game v Gillingham which I've guessed was 1 Jan 1986. Another poster was after the prog for Barrow at home on 22 Jan 1972. From our enormous store of home progs I've managed to locate both - so for a £2 donation ...

Re: Structured Dialogue!

What's the difference between the Senior Management Meeting and the Structured Dialogue meeting? The Structured Dialogue meeting is a stand-alone meeting where STAR sets the agenda. There are fewer people present, the meeting lasts longer and deals with higher level / more strategic / longer-term i...

Re: Jimmy Wheeler RIP

We'll be asking to the club to ensure there's a minute's silence or applause - whatever is deemed most appropriate. Jimmy was much loved by the fans of his eras. The classic story of a one club man - 450 games for his home town club, a wholehearted trier, a decent pro, top scorer five years in a row...

Structured Dialogue!

Sounds dull, I know, but important. We had our first meeting under this new protocol with the senior people at the football club and the notes are now up on our website. On another thread RG30 has referenced the item about Royal Elm Park but do take a look at the other bits, http://www.star-reading....

Re: MATCHWATCH : Queens Park Rangers (h) sponsored by a Merry Christmas to one and all

When we played QPR earlier this season, someone asked which of us are the original hoops. Since then I have found a couple of websites that may give the answer. http://www.kitclassics.co.uk and http://www.historicalkits.co.uk They both say our colours in 1871-72 were blue and white hoops (but don't...

Re: Points

No points for 2019-20 have yet been added but the aim is to have them added by early New Year. If any STAR member feels the lack of these 20 points prevents them qualifying for a ticket purchase, e.g. Fulham away, please call the Ticket Office and they will sort it out. I am 21 points off 3000. Rec...
