Re: Fragments of Elm Park

Oh what I'd give for just one more afternoon on the Southbank :( I had a very vivid dream fairly recently that we were back there for one game. A spent the whole time having a go at all the younger fans for bringing their modern chants into Elm Park and that they had " completely ruined it&quo...

Re: The Non - League thread

Royals and Racers Maidenhead remain 4th after a goalless draw at Aldershot tonight. A good win for Hungerford 3-1 at Slough lifts them into 2nd place in National league south.

Even more remarkable when you consider both teams were basically spared relegation due to lockdown.

Re: The Non - League thread

58 Sandhurst Town 2-6 North Greenford United I did this as well, safe play. I thought i saw you (tall with hat?) on the far side 1st half and very nearly said hello. But can you imagine asking "Hi, are you FoC?" and then it wasn't? Id sound like an old cold war spy gone mad. I was just a ...

Re: The Non - League thread

Weather set to be an issue tomorrow lunchtime, so keep 'em peeled for late call offs.

Combined with covid call offs and M4 closure adding to traffic through Bracknell/Handycross, its not easy at the moment! Might just stay local.

Re: Best Player in the World Ever

I'd vote for Maradona personally.

I think he is the only player ever to more or less single handedly carry a team to win the World Cup and the best domestic league in the world.

Re: The Non - League thread

Winchester City won 2-1 away at Cinderford tonight, and go fourth, after a couple of disappointing results lately. Taking that with the Reading result, I'm a happy bunny tonight. More locally, Basingstoke Town got their first won at their new ground - 3-0 against Mangotsfield. Mangoes are normally ...

Basingstoke Town 2-3 AFC Totton – att 400 (sell out) ‘Dragons led early 1st half (Wilson) but Totton turned the game either side of H/T and led 3-1 with 20’ left – Cook with a late consolation. They are at home again on Tuesday v Mangotsfield – reportedly already a sell-out ? Went to this. They alm...

Midhurst & Easebourne 4-0 Hailsham Town - Pleasant enough ground set high in the South Downs a few miles into West Sussex. - Virus conditions meant Track & Trace at entrance – taken verbally or scanned with the right technology : - Table service at the small clubhouse bar which only stocked...

Re: The Non - League thread

Utterly embarrassing result for Maidenhead United. Their attitude in cup games since promotion has been appalling, like they just don't give a stuff. Same last season v Halesowen in both matches. Ive not seen highlights, but the performance of the home goalkeeper was so bad and out of character it ...

Re: Opposition fans back from the game

Yeah, but he's an idiot. I'd rather win the Play Offs than the League anyway... though maybe not this year. But that would be so typically Reading FC, play-off final past failures not completely laid to rest because the winning final is played behind closed doors! Definitely getting way ahea...

Re: The Non - League thread

Good to see the non league attendances really holding up as the weather turns. 462 at Hartley really stands out. Quick check on the "Spreadsheet" shows they had 122 for a league game when i went there this time 3 years ago Most clubs have the latest scores on Sky or BT, some even show iFol...

Re: The Non - League thread

Something slightly different i've experienced for non league this season is the early kick off. By that i don't mean a lunchtime game, but matches kicking off before the scheduled time. At Ash last weekend they kicked off at 2.55. FT was at 4.39 :D ive had 3 other games KO at around 2.56/2.57 includ...

Went to Ash United 2 - 6 Bashley in the FA Vase.

Lovely little venue, not sure how it has slipped my net until now. Wrongly assumed it would be not much more than a field.

Give it a visit if you can.

Brentford.

Family on both sides from South Ealing. My first game was Brentford v Reading at Griffin Park. Could have gone either way!

Working in the North West. Took in Cammell Laird 1-0 Barnton in the North West Counties League Division 1 South. 89th min penalty settling matters in a match played at the tempo of an Old Firm derby. Situated right by the Mersey near Birkenhead. 2 sides surrounded by heavily padlocked corrugated Iro...

Re: Generic clubs in financial crisis Thread

I am never normally in favour of large clubs helping out small clubs in financial difficulties but they simply have to if supporters aren't allowed back in to stadiums soon. The National League and the couple of leagues below will simply fold if they are not given financial support. I think its Lev...

Re: The Non - League thread

Binfield 2-0 Westfields Returned to Stubbs Lane for the 2nd week running as i was so impressed with the whole set up last Saturday. Visitors were unbeaten in the league last season i think, so backing up what i saw v Totton in a team that's genuine title contenders. Or even better, the Vase. My only...
