Re: European Leagues Thread 2012/2013

Lewandowski already holds the record (34) for players who aren't called Gerd Muller. Brilliant goal from Denmark, where defender Nicolai Geertsen scored a volley for Lyngby that any striker would be proud of. It's just it was a direct rebound from his own scissor kick which hit the bar. Ridiculous s...

Re: England - the future....

As Klopp himself said, he can't have four world-class defenders, they would all want to play. Van Dijk, Gomez, Matip, Williams and Phillips with Fabinho and Henderson also able to play there should be plenty. As it happens of those seven it is only the two younger players who haven't had a spell out...

Re: Nations League & Friendlies

Hendo Finland

Holy bananas! Was a strong, if not wholly first-choice, French line-up too.

France's first home defeat in nearly three years. Finland have beaten Bulgaria, and the Republic twice, in the last couple of months, so they are carrying a bit of form.

Re: LOLiverpooLOL - Next Season

As Sanguine has said in the other thread, been reported that Gomez has suffered a “serious injury” on international duty It’s easy to say after the event has happened but I personally don’t (didn’t) see the need for so many international games this year crammed in. No need for friendlies etc Liverp...

Re: Weekend Football

Winston Biscuit Interesting that the 4 goalscorers (incl Immobile) who are scoring on the modern day crazy level are all over 30

Ibrahimovic too.

Although Haaland wants a word with you.

Re: England - the future....

Reports that Joe Gomez has suffered 'a serious leg injury' in training. He came back from an ACL injury a couple of years ago.

Liverpool's defence down to the bare bones - I guess it will be Fabinho and Matip for the foreseeable, although Matip himself seems to have legs made of custard.

Re: Weekend Football

Michael Owen never scored more than 19 league goals in a season. that is all I guess his injures played an important role in that, however. Maybe. Just amazes me now looking back how much he was seen as a superb goalscorer and the next big hope when his numbers by todays standards are really not th...

We'll know in a month's time whether this Spurs side are genuine contenders - next six league games are City (h), Chelsea (a), Arsenal (h), Palace (a), Liverpool (a), Leicester (h).

Well yes, I mean that's pretty evident from my original post on this where I said I wanted the offside law changed.

Re: UEFA Nations League

Our home game with Iceland may be played in Albania, owing to our opponent's trip to Denmark. Beginning to feel to me that with travel restrictions getting heavier owing to second wave COVID, and given domestic fixture congestion across Europe, it might be pertinent of UEFA to scrap the Nations Leag...

Re: VAR

Well that's unlikely to be a representation of when the ball is kicked, anyway. But it's a case in point, attacker is going for the header, defender has chosen to slide the tackle the grass. I don't think the attacker should be penalised for leaning towards the goal if his feet started in line with...

Re: VAR

How about, a player is onside so long as there are at least 2 opposition players ahead of him. Seemed to work pretty well for 60+ years before the idiots started fiddling. That still is the rule. All that has changed is that players can now be 'inactive', and that's been a huge improvement in the r...

Re: VAR

Whatever the solution, it is clearly wholly stupid that an attacker can have a goal chalked off because his pointing arm is offside when the rest of his body is onside, and by some distance. I said this earlier in the season where offside was given where the attacker was leaning towards the goal, an...

Jamal Musiala of Bayern given another nudge by the England setup - he has represented both English and German youth sides, but has received his first call up to the England u21s squad following his early season form.

Re: LOLiverpooLOL - Next Season

Five wins from five and two goals conceded since Van Dijk was injured - through a combination of Fabinho, Nat Phillips and Rhys Williams partnering Calamity Joe Gomez. Obviously Van Dijk remains their best defender, but I wonder if there was a little complacency in Gomez or Trent ('Virg will tidy i...

Re: European Leagues Thread 2012/2013

Ha, so they did. First game of the season as well. Proving to be as predictive as our opening day defeat to Plymouth in 05-06. I seem to remember one of their supporters going down to the touchline and throwing their ST at the manager. Yes, that was it. Bryan Gunn was sacked, and Paul Lambert was h...
