Re: Euro 2020

Felt like a proper changing of the guard with the Germany side vs Norn Iron. Good little game that, but rather stacks the deck vs your ulstermen.

Re: England - the future....

I was confidently telling the missus that we're playing the group's weakest side on Tuesday (she was asking why the Kosovo game is being played at St. Mary's) and then I read that they are unbeaten in 15 games. They haven't really played anyone of note - their 2-2 draw with Denmark probably their b...

Re: Nations League & Friendlies

Kosovo were always likely to do a Montenegro and punch well above their weight for the first few years of their existence. They're only near the bottom of the rankings due to a lack of games played. I also like this map https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/c/cb/2018%E2%80%9319_UEFA_...

Re: England - the future....

They do make a compelling case for the UEFA Nations League - in a league with teams of about the same level, they performed admirably and got promoted at the first attempt. Sure, they'll struggle at times, but the country is small (< 2 million people) and it's only really existed for less than a dec...

Re: Euro 2020

Delay at the Stade De France after they accidentally played Andorra's national anthem instead of Albania's. Albania players refused to start the match until the correct one was played. Then the stadium announcer made an apology over the speakers but instead of apologising to Albania he accidentally...

I mean, yes they can but I just think it is a bit pointless.

more likely they implode hard around Christmas time.

Re: Opposition fans back from the game

Broadly, all of the West Mids fans I've met are decent. Villa fans tend a bit towards arrogance, but all have been through countless wringers and shitty owners and crap football to give them a sense of perspective and a sense of humour.

Re: Opposition fans back from the game

Everytime I've been to the hawthorns they've been a class act. Plenty of friendly banter in the vine pre and post match and definitely without any sense of entitlement. Best club in the Midlands all day. Understatement imo, they're possibly the most likeable club (or at least fan base - the ridicul...

While I do have a lot of time for WBA (nearest ground to my house, PhD students have been fans, Cyrille Regis etc), I can't help but laugh at this slice of history; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zqOp0oxkRks Final game of 1990-91 season, branded a toga party a few months earlier by fans who were c...

Also, from the Cardiff game yeah, it was just so much fun to watch. sure, we'll not reproduce it every week, sure, sometimes it won't come off but that level and style of performance will just be so much more more enjoyable to watch, win lose or draw. Can't help but think the atmosphere and the offe...

Re: BFTG WBA

Good game that, very similar to Cardiff in the first half but WBA stepped up a gear in the second and we were under the cosh for long spells. "Keep the shape, track your man" was the mantra of those spells. Very disciplined, for the most part, and not riding into silly tackles, for the mos...

BBC News - Bury FC: Part of our family for four generations https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/newsbeat-49372359 This is a very sad article; shows the role of football clubs in communities and how in some relationships it's more than a game. Relegations are sad but ultimately a setback clubs can recover fr...

Re: BFTG - Cardiff

Anyone else seen the replays of the pen? Looked a total dive from Yiadom, not what I want to see really. Spose there could have been a fraction of contact but Morrison certainly looked peeved. Live they showed different angles and one showed Morrison clearly knocking his knee out. Did Yiadoms flop ...
