Re: David Meyler - Reading's biggest ever mercenary?

McDermolenko Taking attention away from both Clement and Gourlay for a second, I really do believe that nowhere near enough has been made of David Meyler's attitude this season.

Wtf is going on?!

I think most people just forgot he exists.

Re: The Non - League thread

I appreciate this could well be old news and mentioned here already, but I'd not realised what a mess the new play-off system is in non-league football https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2FpT-9JNWkU It's particularly bad at step 4, where a low-placed play-off contender could in theory make it to their ...

Re: The Non - League thread

My novelty fixture involved getting up at 6.30 for a trip to Spennymoor. Thankfully I wasn't driving. We got rewarded with a 5-0 win for the home side, which was rather harsh on Ashton, who weren't ever that bad. They just didn't mark very well and conceded three set-piece goals in the first half. t...

I can't say I'm convinced about Clement, but I'm even less convinced those in charge could find somebody better.

Re: Berks and Bucks Senior Cup 2018/19

We played Bracknell in the Berks & Bucks Cup around 1988ish. Bracknell were rock bottom of the Isthmian League Div 3 at the time, as I recall, and I turned up to find a lad from my class at school playing for them up front. Also overheard Mark (or Gary?) Holzman asking the Reading players not to...

Re: On this day

I think we lost 4-0 to Swindon Town away from home on this day in 1987. I remember that game and being caged in alongside their fans. It was only later that we got the upper tier opposite. Unless we can maintain the spirit and application shown on Saturday I fear that we will be playing them again ...

Re: Clement

His coaching methods certainly look dodgy. He has managed to make decent players even worse. Get rid asap. Who was decent and has got worse since he took over? There were glimpses of what we could be after the Derby game, but it didn't take much to soften us up and offering little but meek surrende...

Re: Where have the hardcore gone? Culture loss.

2012/13: Premier League season, but I didn't find it hugely enjoyable because we didn't capitalise on our promotion and we were so out of our depth. 2013/14: Mediocre. 2014/15: Awful. 2015/16: Started brightly, Clarkeg8, then awful. 2016/17: Obviously better, though I never got the sense of togethe...

Re: MATCHWATCH : Sheffield Wednesday (h) sponsored by oh no, not another Saturday home game

Something I was pondering on wednesday night...if you were a scout preparing a report on Reading, and you were asked to name the team's strengths, would you be able to name a single thing we are good at?

Re: MATCHWATCH : Watford (h) sponsored by a difficulty to enthuse

I don't really get all the praise for Watford last night. They passed the ball nicely, but didn't do a great deal with it. Plenty of Championship teams will give us sterner tests at the back than they did. Of course, they might have be half-arsing it, so it's difficult to tell how good they could be...

CountryRoyal
Sutekh Good luck with that. An away game is usually a good place to start getting something to catch on.

Cool. I’ll try and get it going at Preston hopefully one or two of the other 80 fans might join in.

You could probably wander round and ask them individually.

Re: MATCHWATCH : Aston Villa (a) sponsored by hoping it's 1959/1960 all over again

I always keep in mind that Man Utd were a game away from being relegated under Ferguson. Umm, no they weren't? They were 17th mid-season at one point but that's not a game away from relegation. Indeed. Ferguson was supposed to have been a game away from being sacked, but a cup win at Forest saved h...

This might be a completely radical thought, but could it be possible that the club's owners are very wealthy, but just don't want to use huge amounts of that wealth bankrolling the team.

Sutekh anyone who was expecting anything more than mid table at best with this current rebuild is deluded.

I doubt too many were predicting a play-off push

Re: Forest (A) match thread

I'd be far more worried if people were saying our performance was just like last year, but it does sound like the team are offering more. The question is what comes first, some sort of gelling from the team, seeing improved performances leading to improved results, or a slump in confidence due to t...

Hound Be definitely good to reintegrate Moore asap and get some more minutes into the legs of Baldock

I'm hoping he does just lack fitness. If we go through the season with Bod as first choice, we will have problems.

windermereROYAL Bottom of the table as it stands, cue mass hysteria on social media if it stays like this.

It's an odd one. It would be two games that we probably ought to have won, and lost them both.

Re: MATCHWATCH : Derby County (h) sponsored by a new hope

Quicker tempo but still not creating chances, how many saves did Carson actually make for all the early pressure? No many, but there were a number of balls in that were of the "that just needed a touch" variety, to count as decent chances. While there weren't a huge number of clear shots,...

Like every Reading fan, I have a close personal connection to Robin Friday. I was Robin's Deliveroo driver back in the early 60s. He used to order food from Pizza Express in the Oracle, which I would take on my segway round to Robin's favourite local bars - Zerodegrees, Artigiano, Thirsty Bear, pla...
