Re: The Bundesliga Hobnob battle thread 19/20

Not doubting his playing ability for one second. I think the Scots' biggest complaint about him was that, for such a great player, his Scotland team played such negative football. I;m just about old enough to remember Vogts and Heynkes as players, Netzer less so although I believe he's seen as a Mat...

Zip
Stranded By that chart I am Borrussia Monchengladbach but I wish to voice an objection as I am a Frankfurt fan and they were not an option on there.

Stop bitching and embrace the club that gave us Netzer, Vogts and Heynckes. 8)
Eintracht who?

I take it you're not Scottish.

Re: The Bundesliga Hobnob battle thread 19/20

Another one for Borrussia Monchengladbach here.

There's just something about Gunter Netzer's 70's shaggy mane and Cruyffesque maverick tendencies.

Incredible to think German football didn't turn professional or have a national league until 1963.

Re: Dave Kitson`s plan to oust Gordon Taylor

There's nothing that's emerged from his playing career to suggest he's racist but plenty to suggest he runs his mouth off without thinking and I do think he has a massive chip on his shoulder about his route into football, hence his previous swipe at Raheem Sterling. Taylor needs to go but I'm not a...

Re: Dave Kitson`s plan to oust Gordon Taylor

He's done that with plenty of photos of him with white players as well. It was a running gag with him. I'm not saying its big or clever but I'd need something more than that to convince me he's definitely racist.

Re: We simply must top this list.............

The inclusion of Forest is farcical. They weren't even the best team in the league that season and what they did subsequently is irrelevant to the 2nd tier.

Re: We simply must top this list.............

Chelsea, Newcastle and Liverpool can fcuk off because they were too flight clubs who'd oxf*rd up, Wolves and Fulham can fcuk off because that were bankrolled to fcuk. Forest can fcuk off because they didn't even finish in the top 2 and Leeds can fcuk off because they are Leeds. So that leaves a top ...

Re: Worst Reading games

Reading 0 Chesterfield 0 in 88/89 or 89/90. A game so devoid of action, the highlight was Gary Phillips miscontrolling a backpass out for a corner. Odd thought it may sound, I vividly remember that game for being so utterly bad. If it was the same game I had in mind then you are right. My memory wa...

A serious ankle injury and your missus shagging one of the coaching staff is probably going to cause a dent to your confidence.

South Coast Royal I suspect others have suddenly thought of somebody else after they have posted their team.
Thanks to FWTD for reminding me about Steve Wood.
Do posters remember Branfoot's corner-kick routine with Steve arriving really late in the box from deep?

I meant Darren Wood

I did consider Bernal but he could go from being rock solid to an utter calamity in the space of 5 minutes and was always good for forgetting what code of football he was playing.

Re: Best XI in your lifetime. (Excluding the 106 team)

If it included the 106 team, I'd have Hislop over Hahnemann, A N Other over Convey and I'd have to fit Sigurdsson in somewhere. The thing that would give Ivar/Sonks and Kitson/Doyle the nod for me is the combination at CB of brains and brawn and up front, both Kitson and Doyle were intelligent, tire...

Hislop Gunter Wdowczyk Wood Harte Kebe Sigurdsson Gooding Gilkes Quinn Forster Hislop is a given really. I saw Death play but only a couple of times. RB was a struggle. Picked Gunter by default really. CB. Dariusz was a class act and Wood looked really cultured alongside Hicks. LB. Harte just for th...

Pretty sure there were some shenanigans going on behind the scenes involving Butler's wife and another member of staff, maybe Pardew?

IIRC, he also got a nasty ankle injury which really set him back.

I presume it's initially about extending his loan contract to cover the end of this season, whenever that will be, although its good to see him talking about the level of preparation and professionalism in England and how he want to continue being a part of that. Not seen nearly enough to make any r...

A simple yes or no would have sufficed. So what you're saying is it's a completely unreliable statistic of no analytical worth.
