Re: Rival Watch

I understand fully the reasoning behind parachute payments. They allow promoted teams to make a decent fist of premier league survival with a safety net against financial ruin if they go down. However, in the past 5 years or so it seems like relegated sides have been able to pay enormous transfer fe...

Re: MATCHWATCH : Hull City (a) sponsored by Nigel Adkins

Have they kept hold of their front 3? They're class and tore us apart in the second half at theirs last season. But I didn't envisage them keeping them together; Bowen in particular is clearly cut out to play at a higher level.

Re: The 4 needed to complete the team

Increasingly, I'm coming to the view 2 more may be enough. A holding midfielder alongside Rino and a striker. If we can get in Ejaria too then great, but it looks like we're missing out. Holsgrove, East, Olise, Barrett, Howe, McIntyre, and Loader all look ready to make an impact this year and so if ...

Re: Rumour: Leo Bonatini

This would be a fantastic signing. Proven at this level, will suit Gomes' style. I won't get carried away off the back of a Tweet, but yes please. Yeah, 12 goals in the championship definitely equals a proven striker at this level Don’t think he’s scored a goal since Dec 2017, not sure he’s what we...

Re: Any more out the door?

Baldock looks at least semi integrated back with the squad. Whether that’s because Gomes rates him enough or just little chance of offloading I don’t know You'd be stupid not to. Best outcome for the club would be to shift him and get his wages off the books, but if it's not possible he can do a jo...

Re: Next Season's Squad.

Apparently WBA have agreed a fee with Brentford for Sawyers. Which I assume will be used to fund Ejaria. How important is this position? Do we need alternatives? Olise, Barrett and Holsgrove are all attacking midfielders. Loader can play there. Far more important is a deeper midfielder, who can allo...

Re: Any more out the door?

Man Reading fans on Twitter are oxf*rd abysmal, one of them has decided McNulty is the laziest player he has ever seen, a bunch more celebrating his departure. What exactly did he do wrong to gain so much ire? I always felt that it just didn't work out. It’s twitter. Can’t expect anything else He d...

Re: Pre season tour

It's a shame Obita hasn't had any minutes yet this preseason. Could it still be a couple of months until we see him?

Re: CONFIMRED - Matt Miazga

Excellent. Maybe I am becoming old and less pessimistic, but I am very happy with our signings so far. Every one of them adds something, doesn't break the bank, and in fact helps recover it. The jury is out at GK and and a reliable striker but we have some good young options that could surprise a f...

Re: Pre season tour

Well I was worried about creating chances and scoring goals more than our defence, but it seems to be the other way around. Granted you should never read too much into pre-season but Peterboro are a decent test.

And last year's sense of foreboding after Eastleigh turned out to be pretty fair.

Re: Formation for the season ahead

We shouldn't chase a 3 at the back just because some fans think McIntyre deserves some minutes. Agree...and that's why I'd sell Moore (and get a good def-mid and a striker in with the money). A few weeks ago we couldn't sell Moore because 'he's the only proven, experienced, Champ, CB at the club'. ...

Re: Pre season tour

Team for Peterborough Virginia, Yiadom, Blackett, Moore, McIntyre, swift, Rinomhota, Barrett, Olise, Meite, Barrow Hope Novakovich is fit and scheduled to play the 2nd half. Suppose it’s too soon for Miazga :D Looks like Swift in a deeper role alongside Rino. He's shit at that. We desperately need ...

Our defence is top 6 material. We're 3 signings away (2 midfield, 1 striker) away from a very comfortable season.

Re: Next Season's Squad.

If we can recoup most of last year's McNulty fee and get Gunter's wages off our books, surely that gives us a little more wiggle room to bring in midfielders and attacking options? I actually back those at the top of hierarchy to pull a few good signings out; probably people we're not guessing yet. ...

Silence on Miazga starting to concern me. I know double announcement with Ejaria was the plan, but surely we just want to confirm this so he is available against Peterborough today?

Re: Matt Miazga

Apparently asking price £3m. Peanuts for a player of that quality. I believe Oliveira would have been same ball park. And we spunked £7m on Aluko and who knows what on players like Mannone and Edwards. Gourlay should never be allowed near a football club again.

Re: Matt Miazga

Understand #LFC are ready to sell Ovie Ejaria this summer, as opposed to loaning him. Reading had hoped to get him back, but Reds believe they can get around £3m and have had Championship interest, including from Brentford. So no Ejaria then and it’s beginning to look questionable we will get Miazg...

Re: Are we screwed?

Baldock has made a career of being a reliable, competent hard worker without being a prolific goalscorer. Could work out if others around chip in, but not the answer by himself.

Novakovich and Loader are the ones who could spring a few surprises, but they're a risk.

[*]g I've mentioned in another thread, the competition of CB places will only make us better. This is not a dilemma for the fans to worry about more rejoice in it. Thats if Miazga does comes in. For the past 2 years, most selection dilemmas have been "who the oxf*rd could possibly play there? E...
