Re: MATCHWATCH : Cheltenham Town (h)

Was at Cheltenham v Bolton yesterday. Cheltenham got absolutely battered and couldn't get anywhere near the Trotters who look ominously good. Not really surprising as Cheltenham have the lowest budget in the league. Last year Alfie May was our highest earner on something like £120k a year. Curtis Da...

Re: Rival Watch

Could take a lot for Peterborough to recover from that and if Wednesday lose the final after such a comeback, it could be a tough pill too. May impact both next season. Sheffield Wednesday have been absolutely worlds apart from the rest of L1 this season. Similarly to Notts County in the NL, it wou...

Re: As The Dust Settles - The Sombre Thread

We have to be patient and not call for the manager's head if we're not top 6 at Christmas. Its how both Coppell and McDermott achieved success, and to a lesser extent how Evans, Branfoot and McGhee achieved success as well. Boxing Day 2003. We lost 3-0 at home to Wimbledon (our third successive 3-0...

Re: Division one things to forward to……..

I've watched a lot of League One football at Cheltenham this year. There are essentially three leagues within the league. You have grand old clubs fallen on hard times but with relatively deep pockets like Ipswich, Derby, Bolton, Sheff Weds, Portsmouth who can financially outgun the rest, Barry Bann...

Should have come to the Johny Rocks instead Zippy. Was a cracker. Condolences for having to watch crap incompetent Reading FC. A cracking game in a cracking season. A club with a supporters trust owning enough shares to have a Director on the board. No player earning more than £100k a year. A £10k ...

Re: MATCHWATCH : Kidderminster Harriers (a)

s while winger Elliot Bonds is currently on loan from Cheltenham. He's just been recalled to Cheltenham after.a Covid outbreak in the 'Nam squad. He came on as a sub against Oxf**d yesterday. Had rave reviews at Harriers. An energetic, combative midfielder so probably a good thing he's out. Eamonn ...

For the connoisseurs, https://www.svr.co.uk/ goes right past the ground, which is nice. Think my plans for the day will involve treating myself to a day out on the choo choo first 8) . The other railway treat will be a chance to see the Stourbridge Parry People Mover at Stourbridge Junction 8) 8) ....

Re: FA cup 3rd round draw

You lucky lot. Kiddy is an excellent away trip. A proper, modern away terrace with a great combo of acoustics and good views. Holds about 900 I think. The station is right next to the ground and is about 50 mins from Birmingham New Street. Pubs are ok as I recall and the locals are a friendly bunch...

Re: Fragments of Elm Park

As I recall, radio broadcasters and media journos got a place in the North Stand just by the players tunnel though I don’t think live radio commentary on Reading games become a regular thing until the early 90s. Back in about 92/93 we had an FA Cup replay against Man City, Sky had been due to telev...

Re: 25 years ago today

No problem with it now. Revenge was completed when Bolton, then steaming away at the top of the Championship a couple of seasons later, and on a long winning run were overturned 3-2 at Elm Park with Jimmy Quinn having to go in goal for most of the 2nd half. I'd forgotten about that, but it's all co...

Bury abandoned league cup tie 1995. Footage near the end at 1:15 ish https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=cd0AvzWhPug Never seen Elm Park that sodden. A quarter of a century ago  today we enjoyed our greatest away performance ever. The goal highlights don't do it justice - we were brilliant that day.

Re: Worst Reading games

Boxing Day 2003. 0-3 at home to Wimbledon. Wimbledon were morphing into Franchise FC and were hated by their own fans, who'd started boycotting games. We surrendered 3-0 for the third game running. Fans were turning against Coppell and it wouldn't have been a surprise if Mr Mad had sacked him (he ve...

Re: Worst ever Reading FC X1

Lee Nogan  We recouped most of our transfer fee when we sold him. Was he our record signing? According to wiki we paid £250k for him. Overall I thought he was a decent signing. I think our previous record signing was the aforementioned Craig Maskell also for £250k. I'm being provocative. I l...

Re: Worst ever Reading FC X1

Got to be looked at in the context of transfer fees. So: Craig Maskell. Record signing who was ok, but nowhere near as good as he should have been. And replaced Deano "Dean" Horrix I think so was always onto a loser. Carl Asaba. Record signing. Wasn't terrible but he was no Jimmy Quinn. Le...

Tony Le Mesmer Southbank in full voice throughout with many chants you don't here often these days!

Younger viewers will be perplexed by non-Liverpool fans singing You'll Never Walk Alone.

It was a standard song for all teams once but, somehow, Liverpool took ownership of it.

Re: Old Reading Footage on VHS/film/Youtube

Leyton Orient away 1993/94. Feature on The Sunday Match. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TsaQMhb7JOk There was a textbook infiltration of the home end by a dozen or so miscreants at that game. They got led round the pitch to the away end before kick off leading to a lovely rendition of the, now sad...
