Re: The 24/25 Season of Optimism Thread

Benchmark for me are the Portsmouth and Bolton away games. What did they have over us, to turn us over so emphatically. Style of play? Fast wide players? Quality of player in certain positions? Match off against that with what we have now and we would be just fine, if we can find that type of playe...

Re: TAKEOVER *NOT* CONFIMRED

Now safety in L1 is pretty much guaranteed, I wonder how quickly the takeover will move. The expectation of EFL checks was 3 - 4 weeks (I think they mentioned this to STAR) and we're about 2 weeks in. What else is likely to be a deal breaker? I always thought the biggest threat on the buyers side w...

Re: Ups & Downs 23/24

Given the last few years I'm not sure we should really be lolling at clubs with batshit mental owners seemingly intent on screwing the club into the ground. That said, £3 billion? Just how could a stadium cost that much unless you're using it for money laundering purposes? Clubs are always going to...

Re: Rival Watch

After Oldham’s great escape in the 92/93 premiership season I’d never take anything as a given until we’re mathematically safe. I am pretty sure Oldham were 9 points behind Palace with 3 games left and survived. I remember thinking we were safe in 2007/8 and that ended badly. Obviously, I am very c...

Re: The 24/25 Season of Optimism Thread

I think Elliott could be a massive player for us next season. Technically he looks like our most talented player, he can find space, play between the lines, take the ball on the turn. Give him a summer where he can bulk up a bit in pre season and find the right role for him in the middle and it coul...

Re: MATCHWATCH : Bristol Rovers (a)

Selles - great to see that emotion come out last night - sign that they believe the job is done. As the players came over, he was gesticulating wildly at his team on the bench to get everyone involved. Those sometimes-weird moments earlier in the season where he insisted players applaud the fans st...

Re: MATCHWATCH : Barnsley (a)

Only 2 teams have completed the double over us this year: Portsmouth (unsurprisingly) and Shrewsbury (surprisingly). Barnsley have the chance to join that list on Saturday, as do Blackpool on the final day.

Re: Changes In Football thread

I think for the top clubs season ticket holders and the hard core really are an inconvenience. If you could sell all your tickets to tourists or armchair fans enjoying a one off big day out, they would all spend far more money than the hard-core bunch. But there are only a few teams who fit this cat...

Re: Ups & Downs 23/24

Birmingham City getting relegated after sacking Eustace for Rooney would be objectively hilarious. They spent ages fighting their previous owner like we have with Dai, but it could their new ambitious US ones who finally take them down with one of the worst ever managerial decisions.

Re: Rival Watch

It's a question of when not if, but I'm going to Barnsley on Saturday so I selfishly want it to be then. Most underwhelming would be if it happens in next week's midweek fixtures when we're not playing.

Re: Squad Watch 2024/25

Yep, we're stuck with Button. Player at the end of his career, probably on a wage he'll struggle to find elsewhere and there won't be a long list of suitors for him. He's a handy enough 2nd choice. Glad Pereira has had a chance and stepped up. A month ago I'd have said a new keeper is a summer prior...

Re: The 24/25 Season of Optimism Thread

We're all allowing ourselves to think several steps ahead with the takeover, myself included. We're still in a very dangerous situation. If it goes through it's definitely good news, but I hope the new guys are sensible. We have a team and set of footballing operations that are already doing fine, s...

Re: Rival Watch

At the other end of the table, Derby blew it tonight and 2nd place is back in Bolton's hands. It's probably in our interests for the top 3 all to go up and leave a weaker division next season, but it would be oh so funny if we got back to the Championship because Derby.

Re: Rival Watch

2-0 Posh. That game is done.

So win on Saturday and we're safe whatever the other results, save insane GD swings. If we win and Vale don't, it's mathematically certain.

Re: Generic clubs in financial crisis Thread

Sounds like shit hitting the fan with 777's Everton takeover. Sky reporting that the Premier League have approved in principle subject to several conditions: - All money they have lent so far is converted to equity (easy enough) - £60m is placed in escrow to help Everton's day to day funding - They ...

Re: The Magic Number Thread

We're currently on 49 points. The maximum of others are: Port Vale - 55 Cheltenham - 53 Burton - 52 So by my maths, if we win on Saturdays, only 1 of Cheltenham and Burton can catch us, no matter what their results are? So, if we beat Barnsley, we could be safe if either: - Port Vale pick up a maxim...

Re: TAKEOVER *NOT* CONFIMRED

The US investors will always want to make money, and that means aiming for the top league. Interesting to listen to the US Bournemouth owner last night on his plans, and the Birmingham City expansion plans. We already have the stadium, but needs more use. Buy the land around the ground from the Tha...

Re: Rival Watch

Port Vale travel to P'Boro tonight. Do we feel confident enjoying to start supporting them yet? Would much rather Cheltenham and Burton went down.
