Re: U21’s to First Team

Yep and thanks to Ince we know nothing more about him now than we did at the start of the season. Say what you like about Gomes and Pauno ( God knows there’s plenty negative to say ) but we’d have known by now if we had a Richards or a Bristow on our hands. Bristow? Was he really rated? He made hal...

Re: U21’s to First Team

Not yet convinced, unlike others, about Abrefa. Hope to be proved wrong and that he develops quickly in the way Richards did. I think the only thing people are convinced on with Abrefa is he has potential and we need to use him to see if he can live up to it. Yep and thanks to Ince we know nothing ...

Re: Mark Bowen

So how he became Reading owner is a good question especially given his supposed previous clubs he left in tatters. both folded after he bought us, so you can't blame the EFL for not taking that into consideration. Yep. In fact the reality is they folded because of us and his need to be the owner of...

Re: The squad in July

We simply weren't allowed to pay more than 8k so any wage published over that would be simply made up. But yes, anyone thinking the club have gone crazy on this clause is simply choosing to forget where we were last summer. I don't think your first sentence is true, the 8k figure was for the previo...

Re: The Academy/Development squads watch thread 2015//16

You can keep changing your story to fit your narrative all you want, but Loader under performed in his pitch time and didn't deserve more. And Richards in no way stood out from the alternatives until Pauno, when there were none, and was objectively not 'immediately dropped' by Bowen as you claimed....

Re: The Academy/Development squads watch thread 2015//16

Loader got 12 appearances, and 8 of them came under Bowen. Boye only started 5 games. Richards started on 22 October, 9 November and 23 November, so three of Bowen's first 5 games in charge. The bit about leaving for free makes no sense seeing as Richards left while Paunovic was here and Bowen wasn...

Re: Weekend Football

I wonder if west ham will go easy against Leicester on the last day as they have their European final the next week. If you were going to choose any fixture for a game on the final day to try and get you out of trouble I reckon west ham at home would be right up there. Portsmouth v Fulham ? That ga...

Re: The Academy/Development squads watch thread 2015//16

I'd argue Loader got more pitch time than his performances warranted. Very disappointing for someone with such pedigree. And Bowen gave Richards as much if not more game time than anyone prior to him, and chose to keep him over Obita or Blackett, clearly setting him out as first choice for the next...

Re: The dedicated Chris Wilder thread

That's quite interesting. If you'd asked me to rank them without looking, then of the managers I've seen I'd have put Bullivant easily at the bottom. Even though Burns was very disappointing, I (incorrectly it seems) remember him as being a slight improvement. First season in L1(eqiuv) he probably ...

Re: The Academy/Development squads watch thread 2015//16

In a way it shows a lack of faith in him by his parents/advisers, as by taking the big money now being offered by Man City, they most likely reduce his chances of long term success. If he is lucky he will play a lot of U21 football and then be sent on a long series of loans away from Man City to pr...

Re: Injury watch 2022/23

I'd be thinking the club probably are looking to move on. Yes wages are now less of an issue, but I'd rather not have an underperforming player earning £15k a week in our squad when we could get 2/3 players who could be more impactful on that. Even if a new manager would want to use him, I'd still ...

Re: Mark Bowen

I have to say, this thread seems to have diverted away from Mark Bowen....which is sad because surely if we need a reset and a clear out he should be one of the first out of the door. As director of football our academy failed, scouting has failed, and basically everything has failed. Why did he no...

Royal_jimmy I'd have Cowley

Remember them invading the pitch and lobbing golf balls at us in a play off 1st leg back in the day.

Re: Revised new manager poll

One of the reasons why going down may well help us, is (assuming Dai can stop being such a massive fukwit) that we can get off the managerial roundabout and give someone decent a chance to build something over a prolonged period without the threat of being sacked at a poor run with relegation loomi...

Re: MATCHWATCH : Wigan Athletic (h)

Honestly thought the first half was the best we've played in a while , certainly in terms of intent, tempo and closing down. Unlike many I thought Hoilett was excellent until he inevitably ran out of steam and Hendrick kept making 3rd man runs which we missed on several occasions. It's so difficult...
