It's pink and purple for Sunderland's third kit...

Re: CheLOLsea

genome £5m! You could buy Michael Hector for that. Not that you would want to.

Do wonder what Conte will make of Hector. He's not a very 'Italian' defender at all, and with Terry staying and Kante perhaps on his way, I can see Hector leaving on loan. I hope he likes Holland.

Re: The generic transfer thread

Little stat I found - only 8 English sides have ever paid more than £20m for a player - yet Manchester City have done it 19 times, Chelsea 15, Manchester United 12, and Liverpool 9.

Money talks eh?

Re: Stamalamadingdong

This is our 7th permanent manager since Alan Pardew left the club in September 2003, since when hairy managers have lasted a combined 3 years and 83 days. Jaap Stam will likely take us over 10 years of baldiness. Welcome Jaap.

Re: The generic transfer thread

My point was more in respect of what people are willing to pay. The 'going rate' seems to have jumped again.

Re: The generic transfer thread

There has been another shift in transfer fees, hasn't there?
Every player of potential now goes for £20m +.
Even talk of a 29 year old Vardy at £20m to Arsenal.

As you say, this guy basically has one season behind him. How can he be worth €30m?

Re: The generic transfer thread

Tbf Dani Alves is only a 'full-back' because the team sheet would look weird otherwise.

1994 was the one I loved - no home nations bollocks, players still vaguely unknown. Lovely. Stuff.

Re: England - the future....

Oh and why the fcuk is Harry Kane taking ALL the free kicks, corners etc?! He needs to be in the box - i mean its not as if we don't have other players who can't deliver a decent ball into the box Quite. As Ray Wilkins (I think) said yesterday - so what he's our best set-piece taker, get our second...

Re: Euro 96 v Euro 16

Italian 90 was great for everything except the football. Cameroon's shock win over the Argies. Francois Oman Biyik. Cameroon defenders trying to cut Cannigia in half. That Roberto Baggio goal. Toto Schillaci's eyes. Platt's volley. Ireland's shootout win and . Voller and Riikjaard. Gazza's ...

Re: England - the future....

“If you play with them both through the middle with Rooney central as well you can’t defend the wide areas. There were some moments where you might be right and Kane and Vardy were a little too wide but their job is to split and come together at the right times. If you play with a man in behind the...

Re: England - the future....

Rooney was the best of the front three because he was the only one played in something resembling his normal position. Hodgson had clearly asked Rooney to push on, which, with the added defensive responsibilities on the Portugese full-backs, had our two centre-forwards (and they are as close to a ce...

Re: Euro 96 v Euro 16

The simple truth though is that we played well in the 2nd half against Scotland, were excellent against Holland and very good against Germany in the Semi-final. However the opening game against the Swiss, the 1st half against Scotland and the Spanish game were every bit as *dull & uninspiring* ...

Re: Euro 96 v Euro 16

On the subject of the OP, I wondered (stupidly really) if there was anyone who had survived from the '96 tournament, to make it into '16 (maybe a defender who was 18 back in 1996 or something). Answer was no. Indeed there is only one man in the named squads who played in Euro 2000, Tomas Rosicky. Ik...

Re: England - the future....

Media saying today that Rooney will be playing off Kane tonight in England's likely attack for the Russia game. Which either means no Vardy, or Vardy shanted out to the wing again.

Please Roy, prove the doubters wrong this tournament. Show people you get it.
