Re: Villa (H) Match Thread - Sponsored by "we move on"

Against Sunderland we played well enough to suggest we could actually do this. What the hell happened? Not just bad results since then; complete ineptitude and nothing to suggest we can get out of this situation. Just a case of the other team taking the chances they have. WBA, Everton, Sunderland a...

Re: The 2012/2013 Champions League Thread

But people do get sent off for going full blooded into 50-50s these days, and every time it happens in a high profile game, there is the same outcry from people who haven't learned. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying I agree with the rule changes which take this element of contest and physicality o...

Re: The 2012/2013 Champions League Thread

Trying to control the ball at chest height when you're flying through the air at pace towards another player is definitely dangerous play, yes. But then surely any 50/50 tackle is dangerous play, if you are going into a full blooded challenge? Football is a contact sport, things like tonight will h...

Re: The 2012/2013 Champions League Thread

Genuinely amazed how many of you think it's a sending off. There was no way it was violent conduct, a high foot absolutely, but there was absolutely no intent to injure Arbeloa (?) Intent has nothing to do with it. Dangerous play = red. Rules have changed in the last 5 years or so. So trying to con...

Re: 2012/13 transfers - what would you have done?

To be honest, same activity in summer. Just more tactical nous and selecting of our best players.

More activity in January, especially in central midfield with a potential number 10. Not sure I'd bother with Carrico if we won't even allow him some game time in an FA Cup tie against Sheff Utd.

Very much reminding me of earlier games of the season under 4-4-2. We haven't looked that bad, we've had more pressure but exposed at the back and beaten comfortably.

rhroyal Where is McAnuff's defensive support for Harte?

Said just before Pienaar's free run on Harte makes it 2-0.

Re: Everton (A) - Match Thread

I don't think the intention is necessarily for Pearce to put it in. He keeps nodding it down around Alfie and Hunt who are lurking. Right or wrong, it's causing havoc amidst an Everton defense who can't seem to look up. Yeh, he's stretching so much just to keep them all in play, he can barely head ...

Re: Everton (A) - Match Thread

That was epicly poor timing. What from you? Harte's set plays are either too far to the back post or don't even go past his first man. For a team who rely heavily on them, we have a very hit & miss taker, mainly miss. Yes from me. He's clearly been told to find Pearce, which he has done almost ...

Taylor to play a blinder and rescue us a point, before following up his debut with utter dross. I remember Mannoane making an outstanding debut for Arsenal once.

Re: OS deletes Pearce article

It's fairly easy, in hindsight, to say that Pearce should have played instead of Morrison. Try and see it from Brian's opoint of view - Pearce was responsible for Stoke's goals in his last game, and Morrison played well against one of the best teams in the World in his last game. To me it was OK to...

Re: OS deletes Pearce article

I know technically Jerome was his man, but my recollection of it is that Jerome took it down on his chest and then fired it in and Pearce was behind him because Mapps header was a massive error. Only thing Pearce could really have done was foul him and give a Pen away. A little too tight but Mapps ...

What's frustrating is our team has plenty of shortcomings and there is so much about our predicament which I can't blame McD for. BUT FFS PLAY ALEX PEARCE!!!!! LOOK OUR RECORD WITHOUT HIM AND WITH HIM; WE'RE ONLY BEHIND 17TH BY 1 POINT, LEAVING HIM OUT IS THAT FCUKING DIFFERENCE AND MORE!!!!! That's...

Re: BFTG Wigan

Agreed the game has developed since then, the fans would be more understanding now. We had never undergone such a sobering experience as this season under Coppell; we had come up marginally short. Now the same method of playing looks long outdated; it wasn't at the time.

It wasn't Gylfi's fault in this case though, like with some of the others. Wanted to stay, pushed out by the club for cash. Massive shame.
