Re: Embargos, HMRC Payment defaults, non payment of wages, the usual under Dai Wrongge

What I don't understand about this £1m shortfall is the following: Why does it magically stop becoming a problem next month? We knew Dai's commitment to the club at the start of the season, why didn't we budget better? How in the world can we be £1m short this month? I was under the impression we h...

Re: TAKEOVER *NOT* CONFIMRED

No way are they paying £20m. No way in hell.

For £10m you can buy your own golf course, convert some of the holes into some football pitches and convert the club house into a fitness centre.

Does £10m buy you Castle Royle in Knowl Hill, probably.

Re: MATCHWATCH : Derby County (a)

If Pereira gets there first then it’s not a foul. Simple as. He isn’t coming in dangerously, he’s approaching the ball in the same way Gayle is, neither have possession. There was no excessive force etc It’s ok to say the ref made a bad decision. He did. He was conned but he made a bad call. It hap...

Re: MATCHWATCH : Derby County (a)

The referee saw a coming together. So he gave it. What he couldnt see is the handball. So he can't give a handball if he didnt see it a handball. Pereira might feel hard done by, but a better lesson to draw from this is, dont rush out and give referees decisions to make. If he sees a coming togethe...

Re: MATCHWATCH : Derby County (a)

I was there, and all three refereeing calamities happened right in front of me. Pareira had both hands either side of the ball, inside the penalty area, although he had yet to firmly grip it - Gayle knocked the ball with his arm out of Pereira's hands. Periera then colllided with Gayle. If the refe...

Re: MATCHWATCH : Derby County (a)

JP had every chance of getting his hands on the ball and may well have done, if the two players then collide then how is that an offence. Is JP not allowed to run as quickly as Gayle. If Gayle handles the ball before any collision then that is the first offence and the point at which the ref should...

Re: MATCHWATCH : Derby County (a)

Whether or not he hand balled it before or after the collision, he could see the keeper coming and the keeper had no hope of getting the ball without clearing out the man. The keeper gave away a penalty through his inexperience / exuberance. Keeper gave ref a decision to make. A ref is behind the s...

Re: MATCHWATCH : Derby County (a)

If you dont want to concede penalties, you don't rush out of your box and bundle into a player, knowing that will mean the ref will have to make a decision based on what he has seen. Every single comment along the lines of "it was crystal clear" is because you are watching on a TV with th...

Re: MATCHWATCH : Derby County (a)

However, in both cases a Reading player probably made a poor decision to find themselves in a situation where a poor decision could be made by the ref. How is Yids not tripping Gayle a poor decision? For his 2nd yellow, he tried to turn his way out of trouble when surrounded by Derby players - ball...

Re: MATCHWATCH : Derby County (a)

Are you using a Nokia 5110? No. Have to agree with GWL that my first reaction is what the oxf*rd is Pereira doing racing out to the edge of his box to a striker running essentially away from goal, when he's never going to get to the ball.first cleanly. And I have sympathy with a ref not seeing a ha...

Re: MATCHWATCH : Derby County (a)

I think there pen was a pen. 2nd yellow while very soft, if he has tripped him, it is a 2nd yellow as he is in a very attacking position. Hard to tell from.that angle if he did trip him. Fine margins Have you seen the replay? It was a clear handball by Gayle. Whether or not he hand balled it before...

Re: If a buyer isn’t going to happen, would you rather?

Because it relies on getting into the promised land of the PL. And for many investors they dont have the time commitment to get into the PL. You can't call a football team sustainable if it relies on getting to the PL and staying there a while. That literally the hole problem with the Championship....

Re: If a buyer isn’t going to happen, would you rather?

So basically cost neutral over about a decade. not at all. with the exception of being in the PL. an almost constant loss. i.e. unsustainable. Profit / loss -17 2021-22 -35 2020-21 -41 2019-20 -30 2018-19 -20 2017-18 4 2016-17 Dai wrote off a 9m loan, so the actual club made a 5m loss -15 2015-16 2...

Re: If a buyer isn’t going to happen, would you rather?

Obviously you're struggling here, because that's three years that have been mentioned, with about another 3-5 as roughly break even. Which adds up to about a decade cost neutral. I've done the research to settle it for you both. From c. 2000 - 2006 it was a story of consistent, modest losses in the...

Re: If a buyer isn’t going to happen, would you rather?

Because all the players got big promotion bonuses. Taking one year in isolation is meaningless. When was last time the club actually broke even or made a profit? We made profit in both first two PL seasons. And we were roughly breaking even through player sales in the years between that and the nex...

Re: If a buyer isn’t going to happen, would you rather?

Forget profitable, just minimal losses is good for most club. It should a club like us at least 50 years to create losses of about £150m. We've done it in about 10. We made big losses the year we were promoted under Sir Steve. Sir John "cut the cloth" Madejski whose era we all use as exam...

Re: If a buyer isn’t going to happen, would you rather?

No, that isn't the case. With a good youth system and scouting, it's perfect feasible to run a club on modest means, making up shortfall on selling on players. We've done it before, we can do it again. This. Only caveat is football finances are even more nuts today than in out 00s heyday. Very hard...

Re: If a buyer isn’t going to happen, would you rather?

Every person who thinks "i can't wait for a new owner to come in and stabilise things"... What they really means is: I can't wait for someone new to come in and to start taking heavy losses immediately with pretty much no prospect of ever making a return on that money, so that I can enjoy ...
