Re: Gary Heale.

I think it was Miss America who took him away. Big miss for us.

Signed from Luton? Decent, slick, skilful striker, quite strong. Struggling for a comparison here, maybe a cross between Forster and Doyle. Or Vydra on a good day.

Re: Should Reading drop the Royals nickname ?

Ah. A bit earlier than I had thought. It was summer of 1976, just after we got promoted from Div 4 and not long after H&P shut down. There was a competition and fans sent in suggestions. Manager Charlie Hurley was the judge (!) and picked the Royals. The club then sold silk scarves at the start...

Re: Mike Conroy

Conroy came as a striker but played quite a bit at left back - a weird Branfoot-ism.

The opposition seemed to be quite happy for Conroy at LB to have the ball!

He was a trier in a bleak period.

Re: Who do you WANT to win the play-offs?

Brentford have got a worse big game mentality than us

Remember that time they had a pen in the last minute - score and they went up - they only managed to concede a breakaway from their own pen and stayed down.

Can't see em getting past the Muffsters.

Re: The hardest player to ever play for Reading?

Barney 1970s - Robin Friday (really was as hard as nails)
1980s - Terry Hurlock
1990s - Parky

No one since that springs to mind.

1960s - Colin Meldrum (another jock)

Go Bees for me. Deserved it last season. Can laugh at Fulham on the way past.

I couldn’t bear to watch Swansea Bmuff final.

Re: On this day

Take a look at the 'On this day' reports for 1st April - it's an incredibly wide selection that really sums up the best and worst of supporting Reading - away trips from Wrexham to Tottenham - the absolute fury of not beating Northampton to the absolute joy of winning the Football League with a 5-0 ...

Re: MATCHWATCH : Bristol City (a)

Easiest win of the season. Wasn’t worried for one moment.

They really are one of the great under achievers as a club, on a par with Newcastle and Brum City.

Remember when we took 5000 down there in 1995. They were crap that day too.

Leeds 1 Royals 0 43 mins 2-0 44 mins HT 2-0 superb stream- for 40 mins we were good value at being level, but it all went pear shaped with the 2 quick fire goals. 3-0 52 mins- bad Boyce- Clarke error FT 3-0 That`s almost wrapped up promotion to Div 1 for Leeds. Reading need to finish in top 5 for t...

Re: Injury watch 2020/21

That appears to be a very precise diagnosis. Would be great if it's that or less but given the club's record on predicting returns from injury, I fear it may be longer. I'd take that. Looked to me like a fractured collar bone from the way he fell / held it afterwards which I'd have thought was 4-6 ...

Really enjoyed that. First come back win if the season. Joao is to this team what Robin Friday was to the 1976 team - utterly vital. Part of the pleasure was the Hudds commentary. Made me realise how windbag the Berks stuff is, car park, pie, long journey, unfortunately , rhetorical question, to be ...

Heathrow is our airport.

Lucky Luton will be moving to a town centre ground in the next couple of years, called the PowerDome or some such.

Re: The best game you've ever seen?

Thought that 4-3 was 3-2, great game I grant you. That 5-7 was an utter nightmare I never want to be reminded of. I’ll offer the 6-0 V WHU and the long ago 4-3 comeback v Plymouth which was actually terrible for the first hour. Elsewhere the miracle of Istanbul and Citehs AGUERRRRRRO win over QPR to...
