Re: Generic clubs in financial crisis Thread

iirc the idea of clubs being docked points for going into administration was only brought in because Leicester went into admin to help clear debts as they were on their way to promotion about 15-20 years ago. I remember there being a lot of unhappiness at the time of how they went about doing this....

Re: The Non - League thread

NAT AFC Fylde 4-1 Maidenhead United – ‘Magpies’ slip back to 19th and possible bother as those immediately below them have games in hand. That’s 5 defeats in 6 now. It's fascinatingly close at the bottom - only eight points separate Hartlepool in 10th place and Kidderminster in 23rd! Most clubs sti...

Re: Embargos, HMRC Payment defaults, non payment of wages, the usual under Dai Wrongge

When is the next HMRC bill due? I assume this is for employer tax and Ni contributions so if he doesn't pay the players then no tax and NI is due. So in theory if they didn't pay any wages but instead gave all the players and staff an interest free loan, they might be able to defer tax and NI... co...

Re: TAKEOVER *NOT* CONFIMRED

Was talking to a friend who is involved in board of a national league team - and he told me what virtually all teams in the league are loss making and need a financial injection of around £1million each year. I found that staggering .. Don't want to be rude, but are you new here? Football's financi...

Re: #SellBeforeWeDai (to someone fit and proper)“ supporters action group

Maybe the EFL should have the power to divert TV revenues to the tax man and/or player wages in situations such as those we've found ourselves in and then to get most clubs on board with that idea, further divert them to pay outstanding transfer fees owed to other EFL and non league clubs. Might do...

Re: #SellBeforeWeDai (to someone fit and proper)“ supporters action group

Not defending the whole points deduction system as I've been a critic of it for many, many years - but one argument that made fot it actually impacting an owner is that they decrease the value of the owner's asset if they want to sell it - e.g. a L2 club has a lower market value than a L1 club. Of c...

Marc McNulty's career flying high in the Scottish second division. Had never even heard of The Spartans FC https://www.spartansfc.com/2024/02/21/signing-news-marc-mcnulty-signs-for-spartans/ They're a lovely little club in Pilton/Granton in Edinburgh - really community focussed and run lots of team...

Re: Embargos, HMRC Payment defaults, non payment of wages, the usual under Dai Wrongge

Thing is, hardly any professional football teams can survive without their owner so unsustainable is the pyramid. That's the prevailing view, but there are a few clubs starting to challenge it through community ownership. What if the club is community owned and the members of the community put in a...

Re: Embargos, HMRC Payment defaults, non payment of wages, the usual under Dai Wrongge

Is there a cut-off point for points deductions? The season ends on the 27th of April. Could there be a situation where we stay up by a point, then get deducted points because we missed a payment at the end of April, or May even? I think (but not 100% certain) it's the same as the old transfer deadl...

Their owners own Bet365, who sponsor their stadium/shirts. It could well be a Man City-style situation going on. Yep. And as a gambling company makes massive profits, it's very useful to have a subsidiary in the group that makes substantial losses, as those losses reduce the tax bill of the gamblin...
