Re: If a buyer isn’t going to happen, would you rather?

Our £1m Lita signing was very unusual in being a Championship signing not funded by a larger sale. Some transfers of top-end Championship players the following summer or shortly after: Joleon Lescott - £4m Matthew Kilgallon - £2m Madjid Bougherra - £2.5m Claude Davis - £3m Danny Shittu - £1.6m Greg ...

Re: MATCHWATCH : Wycombe Wanderers (h)

Actually thought Mola was MOTM before that moment of madness. Looked much more committed defensively than I’d seen him before and got forward effectively. Pretty uninspiring stuff - good intensity at the start of the second half but then we faded. Thought Craig did better than Wing but understandabl...

Was thinking about the players in recent years we’ve lost before they could make an impact. Thierry Nevers is one of them. Best remembered for this ridiculous piece of football: https://www.reddit.com/r/soccer/comments/d5x011/filthy_first_touch_run_and_finish_by_thierry/ If he’d stuck with us he’d ...

Re: The Magic Number Thread

The real magic number is 3. - number of points we get for a win - shirt number of arguably our longest serving current player - sides to a triangle - world record number of goals scored in one match - members of De La Soul - number of seats the Tories are projected to win at the next election - numb...

Re: Who do you consider to be a rival?

I "academically" consider Oxford, Swindon, and Aldershot our rivals, but there's no venom there.

I have much more hatred for West Ham (both for Pardew and because of their Allardyce-era thuggery), Cardiff, and anyone associated with Neil Warnock.

Re: The Academy/Development squads watch thread 2015//16

How does that compare to previous years? Is this year an anomaly? What are the reasons behind it? Are the Cat 1 clubs playing their strongest U18 sides, or are their better players playing up an age group so aren't being considered for the Youth Cup especially the early rounds? Not sure one season ...

Re: liam moore to return till end of the season

There were also rumours ( I believe on this forum) of a racism incident at the club at the time where Moore as captain didn't back the club's handling of it. I thought the issue was that he didn't back the player. Might've got that wrong though. If he’d backed the club and not the player, it would’...

Re: The Academy/Development squads watch thread 2015//16

Has Basil Tuma been injured or sent on loan that I've missed. Was a bit surprised to see Wareham leapfrog him in the pecking order. Wareham is a proper traditional goalscorer, and pretty good at it (probably the best penalty box player we've had at youth level since Liburd, who was well into his 20...

Re: MATCHWATCH : Portsmouth (a)

The PL Everton decision is going to be very interesting. Feels like the local MPs, Liverpool mayor Steve Rotheram and Everton-supporting Manchester mayor Andy Burnham are desperately trying to sway the outcome. Does rather shine a dim light on what our locally elected bods are doing for us. Has Alo...

Re: liam moore to return till end of the season

When the financial problems started to bite two years ago, Moore privately told the club that he wouldn't refuse a transfer if it would help. They responded by publicly stripping him of the captaincy. Don't think it's fair to characterise Moore as happily sat on the bench. If you're going to find fa...

Middle ground, no expectations, open to good things but alert to bad ones. People thought Stam would be a disaster and he had us penalties away from promotion. So I don’t get believer points :( Did think it was stupid that people were judging him based on Southampton. If anything I’m less positive ...

Re: MATCHWATCH : Oxford United (a)

If we got new owners and stability, our return would be "when", not "if". An immediate return may not be on the cards given the smoulder mess Dai is leaving behind, but we would be an absolutely massive club in L2. Convince managers, players etc., that we've put this terrible er...

I haven’t forgiven Luton for breaking our unbeaten streak in 2005/06. They should have had the decency to just let us win like everyone else did.

Dgaf about them signing our players. And anyone on their high horse should look at what we did wrt Doyle and Long…

Apart from when John Mackie racially abusing Carl Asaba in 2002. And when our own fans sang racist songs about Seol and Al-Habsi. That's a stretch and a bit. Seol maybe, the songs are more closely associated with Park Ji-Sung after all, but the songs about Al-Habsi being in ISIS made news. There wa...

Obviously he's a professional who just wants to get paid at the end of the week, And therein lies the rub - no matter how much you love your employer, if they stop paying you on time and you've got a mortgage to pay and a baby to take care of, you're going to become very pragmatic very quickly. Por...
