Re: England - the future....

It seems Sterling has gone off on one and grabbed Gomez by the throat in a confrontation in the canteen as a spill over from their on-pitch tussle on Sunday.

Sterling has been dropped for the next game as a result.

Just when the squad was seemingly quite settled with a good atmosphere!

Re: LOLiverpooLOL - Next Season

One other thing-Sterling. In recent days there has been talk of him going to Real Madrid, earning something like £500,000 per week and now being almost up there with Messi and Ronaldo in ability. Really? I know yesterday was a difficult game for him but considering he had a lot of the ball, especia...

Re: LOLiverpooLOL - Next Season

The scousers have been lucky with injuries and decisions. A full strength City side would probably have one that. The back up defenders for City are not as good. Stones for example was and is, dreadful. Lucky with injuries? They've had their £50m+ goalkeeper out inured for half the season so far an...

Re: VAR

When it comes to reviewing a goal that’s been scored the clear and obvious test doesn’t come into the equation, or certainly doesn’t for offsides because they’re apparently* factual decisions. In terms of the frame rates and accuracy, I’ve seen some people suggest that the level of accuracy could be...

https://pbs.twimg.com/media/EI8cHWbXkAEf9k5?format=jpg&name=medium To the naked eye that looks like the defenders knee is playing him on. To make matters worse that wasn't even the cross from which they scored. I've not seen it yet but according to Durham and The Moose on TalkSport (I know, I k...

Re: VAR

I remember a number of decisions that weren't given England's way when I think they should've been Sorry HB, I still think you've got a fundamental misunderstanding of what VAR is supposed to do. As well as the objective stuff, it is to support referees in making better subjective decisions. That s...

Re: VAR

I don't think physically stopping the clock is a good idea though as it would probably become a tactical play thing and I could see that making things more stop start as teams manipulate the restarts, or stoppages, to their advantage . It would, IMO, be the first step towards stopping the game for ...

Re: England - the future....

I think Grealish can find himself a tad unlucky not to be in the squad, he’s had a pretty good season so far I can see where you're coming from, but as Southgate said, he's competing against some very good players for a place in the squad. I think Stones and Gomez are probably a bit fortunate to be...

Re: VAR

Would you be in favour of the clock stopping althogether when an injury occurs, VAR checks or in the lead up to the taking of free kicks around the box and penalities? Do away with time added on completely? I could see the advantage of taking away the responsibility of timekeeping from ref, it's so...

Re: VAR

Like someone wants it all to fail. Or like it doesn't really work very well in such a fluid sport? I know it was deemed to have worked ok at the World Cup, but did it really? I remember a number of decisions that weren't given England's way when I think they should've been and it just wasn't given ...

Re: The Non - League thread

No chance. Football just isn’t worth the kind of money required to watch the pro game in the flesh on a regular basis, no matter how good the passing. Armchair for me. Other options locally to watch more entertaining fare though, albeit without the emotional attachment perhaps. Binfield are going a...

Re: VAR

Not sure the diving header analogy works. If a player has already launched themselves two feet ahead of the defender when the ball is played , then there's an infinitely small chance that he has timed his jump correctly for a header. Not if it's wet and they slide it in... Regardless, the rule as i...

Re: VAR

Put simply it should be has he got an advantage. If Firminio's armpit has been 0.5cm back from where it was, he would still have scored so he hasn't gained any advantage at all. Isn't that just making it more subjective though? The rule states that it's any part of the body you can score with, whic...

Re: VAR

On offsides, I can't help but think that the rule needs to be simplified to referring only to the feet. Essentially Firmino was offside under the current rules because Mings was trying to play offside - that is whilst his feet were ahead of Firmino's, he was leaning away from goal, whereas Firmino ...

Re: LOLiverpooLOL - Next Season

Accepting all the "getting results when playing badly / playing until the bitter end" plaudits I still think Liverpool are there for the taking . Mane is carrying the front 3 at the moment , Salah is clearly not right (probably still carrying an injury) and Firmino's game is suffering a l...

Re: Weekend Football

Potentially unpopular opinion - 'cynical' fouls, that whilst not always reckless (like Son's was) are designed only to stop the flow of the game, should be punished with a straight red card. Son tripped Gomes to break up the attack, he was prepared to 'take a yellow for the team'. This should be cu...

Re: Weekend Football

I read a stat this morning that Vardy has now scored 19 goals in 21 games since Rodgers took over at Leicester.

His chance conversion is also at 45%.

That's pretty outstanding, and Rodgers probably deserves a fair amount of credit for it too.

Re: VAR

VAR a disaster yet again. How on earth was Firmino offside? I've not seen it, but heard it was given for his armpit being offside or something daft! How close a call was it? These marginal decisions are still being made with technology that just isn't accurate enough to be able to make these calls ...
