Re: Injury watch 2023/24

There's a post on Twitter claiming that after Ejaria refused to go on at Hull he left the ground there and then in his track suit and got the train home. The same post claims he has lunch away from the players in his car. Saw that, quite an interesting read - https://twitter.com/ThomasH_1871/status...

Re: You’re too small!

Wickham wasn’t released, his family moved out of our catchment area so we weren’t allowed to keep him. I can believe that Austin and Eze -and Shandon Baptiste were all told that they were too small, but I don’t think that was the real reason. I think it’s just a nice way of saying “not good enough”....

Mid Sussex Royal
Sutekh Bindon should be back for Notlob, Ejaria not back training yet, still struggling with his knee problem.

Thought he'd had surgery to clear it up

It was fatal.

Re: I agree with Robbie Savage

We all love xG stats. By their measure we are 12th best at creating chances at 6.65 xG, but we have only scored 3. Only 3 teams are underperforming more than us. We also create a high proportion of our chances from open play, which I also view as encouraging. At the other end, we're 4th in xA with ...

Re: Squad Bible

Thank goodness for Henry 8th (even if for selfish reasons) and Martin Luther as otherwise we might still be genuflecting all over the place as so many foreign players do for some reason on the pitches of England. The bible, albeit no doubt historically inaccurate, does have some decent allegorical ...

Re: The Academy/Development squads watch thread 2015//16

Out of interest, don't PL2 sides get the opportunity to play the equivalent academy sides of European nations. I presume Reading would have to win or finish in the top 3/4 places of their leagues to qualify or is qualification a bit more open than that? Yes there is the PL2 International Cup. Top 1...

Re: Reading's Penalty Shoot Out Record

Hendo I want to say someone like Doncaster in the 2006/07?

IIRC Peter Maté scored the winning pen.

Not quite. Mate scored our third goal in regulation time. Our other, more storied loan centre back, Andre Bikey, scored the winning penalty.

Ipswich have now scored more goals for Reading at the Madejski than Chris Martin, Lewis Grabban, or Billy Sharp.

Of course it the various FAs, FIFA and UEFA weren't so obsessed with cash we could dump international breaks completely but no let's press on with clogging up the domestic fixture list as much as possible and then blame the domestic league and cup competitions for there being too many games. :| If ...

Re: Ex Players

Does anyone remember a player called Sekou Baradji who played for us? I am pretty sure West Ham signed him on deadline day and we immediately signed him on loan. I noticed that he’s still playing but I have no recollection of watching him play for us and was just wondering if he was any good. Barel...

Re: Ex Players

Do wonder whether Richards' career will just fade into obscurity? Perhaps the dream move to Bayern could end up being the move that finished his career in reality. Probably end up in Scotland or Turkey He got a move to the Premier League then spent a whole year out with a serious injury. In any cas...

Would have been pleased with Kilkenny at the start of the window.

With the options we have now, he'd seem superfluous.

Re: BFTG Stevenage

Holmes and McIntyre feel like defensive midfielders who ended up as centre backs by accident. They are. Holmes got injured at about the age when his teammates were firming up their positions. Wasn't sure if he was going to keep playing, and it was very awkward when he returned to the team - he'd go...

Re: Where does Carroll rank in worst ever signings?

Bridge and Anton Ferdinand both looked absolutely a class above, in terms of "talent" up there with anyone in their positions for us. Issue was that Bridge's body suddenly fell apart, and Ferdinand's was already falling apart when we signed him. Les Ferdinand was much more of a disappointm...

Re: Where does Carroll rank in worst ever signings?

Then there's Emerse Fae and about 60% of the signings made by Tommy Burns. He was our record signing at the time wasn't he ... hardly played. Daniel Carrico for me would be the winner of the least recognised good signing ... how he went onto captain Sevilla after us and being judged not good enough...

Re: Summer 2023 Transfer Speculation

Can someone please make a summary of who we signed, and whether it was permiment or a loan ? We seemed to have had some real shrewdness that belies our financial state. But ive not been able to keep up with it tbh. Agree with above about signing an experienced striker as a starter. Our academy have...

Re: BFTG Stevenage

My actual thoughts… - Abbey and Bindon are breaths of fresh air, especially Abbey. He’s quick, graceful, and bold with the ball at his feet. The Toms don’t have quite the same grace but they’ve also lost the youthful exuberance and willingness to try ambitious passes and carries after years of being...
