Re: Real Life!

Not sure how much of the discussions on here you've read, mate, but I think you've missed the point. 99.9% of Reading match attendees knew this lad was a special talent. Quite frankly, he was too good for this club at this level, and his move away to a big club was as inevitable as night following d...

Re: Confidence Part 2

[I can also remember how previous relegations caused us to lose our better players as we couldn't afford them any more, Sorry, Rev, I'm struggling with the accuracy of that statement. From my memory, our "better players" were generally sold to bigger, more ambitious clubs than ours. The p...

Re: When did you move from RTG to STG

I supposed my slow slide into my current state of apathy started when it became apparent that my hope and expectations for my football team are not the same as the people controlling the club. Throughout the nineties as Reading move from Elm Park to the Mad Stad there seemed to be a unifying sprit ...

Re: Living in the past

[quote="rabidbee"]It's not so much about living in the past, it's about recognising that there are certain limitations on the club that haven't really changed. We're still an unfancied provincial club with a fairly modest fan base. Potentially, we could draw on millions in the wider area, ...

Royal Rother He selects neither who is bought or sold, so any effect on the playing side (positive or negative) is not his doing.

Which is largely the point I was trying to get across when we were discussing Madejski's actual involvement in the club's elevation to the Premiership.

Re: Confidence

At the moment, I have got confidence. The Siggurdson sale is shocking and the worst thing taht has happened to the club since Friday left. Overreaction. The worst thing to happen to the club was the meek, needless slide out of the Premiership But, once a Bundesliga side appraoched Reading with that...

Re: Madman: Your time is Uppppppppppp

Portsmouth played a weakened team and Fulham scored. That's why we were relegated./quote Cobblers But the courage missing in spring 08 was on the field. That team was well capable of a home draw with Fulham, but when we needed to be lions we were sheep, and we gave them the hope they needed .[/quote...

Re: demonstration

For me, that will depend entirely on how the proceeds of the sale are used. If Brian gets the cash to replace, then I'm cool with it. If we get the "Budget deficit" line, then I intend boycotting a game. if several thousand did the same in a coordinated action, it would send the message ou...

Re: anyone else hate England and the world cup?

I thought we were trying to do it by just shifting the dead weight, but obviously it wasnt enough I was arguing about transfer policy with one of the drones who always stick up for the club recently on these pages (Sun Tzu probably?) who piped up that we weren't selling off the academy products. I ...

These targets for sustained and significant progress embrace both the First Team and the Fo...

Re: Gylfi is leaving Reading

Why are so many reacting (if this proves true) with surprise? Gylfi is, bar none, the best "home produced" player this club has had in the last 40 years (maybe longer), He is an ambitious competitive sportsman who deserves to be given the chance to play at the highest level, and it would t...

Re: Madman: Your time is Uppppppppppp

Thing is, with no money about, if BMcD was removed, who would want to come in knowing that funds for new players was non-existant? Also, which players would want to come if they knew that there was no visible sign of ambition? That's very pertinent. Competitive sportsmen generally react very positi...

Re: Reading are crap

I was there in the days of no money - demanding Frank Waller out, early 80s - and it goes back to the same old thing - in those days there was no real expectation - if we were top half of div 3 we thought we were doing well. Yes, we've been spoiled by success over the years - but who doesn't want t...
