It Is What It Is Perspective:

We sold a 20 year old player who has one good season under his belt, looks a good prospect, might have had a long lucky spell or whatnot, his age could still turn sour against him and do some crazy sh!t and screw his career over (He'll shoot, he'll score, he'll nick your 4x4 ,Marlon King, Marlon King). And in return we got nearly 7,000,000! We sold Doyle for less than that and he had a lot more experience, a much bigger name etc etc etc. Good bit of money i say, fill the hole in Johns pocket for a while, shut him up, and hopefully few a few pennies for a few loaneeeeeeeees

This post is what it is. It isn't great.

That's it. There won't be loans. That 7m is going straight into Madejski's pocket.

The Last Minute Deal

by Coppell's Right Footed 11 » 31 Aug 2010 20:04

The club appears to be very very quiet this evening.

Jonny Fordham hasn't said a thing since he went to interview Ian Harte at 5:30pm.

Jake Taylor putting some quotes on Twitter which could be linked to SImon Cox,

Others mentioned Matty Fryatt and Jay Spearing could still happen.

I think we have a few irons in the fire, i think Simon Cox will be one of them.

If we signed Cox or Fryatt, would people be happy?

What player would you want (in our price range) to help fill the large hole left from Glyfi?

Both would make me fairly happy after the days events.

I'm not overly fussed with Fryup, but he's better than Long, so it's improving on what we have.

What have we come to when everybody keeps on about bloody loan signings?
Surely the object is to build a team again as Coppell did and not just patch up with more oldies or players like Bertrand that we are never going to buy.

The sale of Gylfi was always going to happen and if we get £6million that strikes me as a fair deal because he may not succeed at the higher level-we all think that he will but he MIGHT not.
Also today I am glad that we have kept the other two of our most important players in Kebe and McAnuff-at least we will keep a method of playing by using pace out wide.

Unfortunately as yet we haven't brought in the type of striker that we have been missing since Kitson left and Cox would have been just another little runaround type of striker.
I wouldn't mind Fryatt as long as there were a genuine chance of buying him at some stage-the same goes for any other loan signing.
I would also like a Koumas-type playmaker (is there another Simon Osborn out there?) as none of our current crop are the types to make telling passes.

BTW did anybody else hear on the radio that we supposedly made a big bid for a Northampton player?

I'm guessing if there was anything to it, it was connected to the possible departure of Kebe or McAnuff.

It would have been their No 15 who skinned Williams all night until he went off injured.

Why is everyone so anti Harte?

For 50k i think it is a great move and at least shows that the club have only taken 6 games to realise that Williams is shit and that we need someone in at left back.

Certain Harte will turn out better than Williams

So?

The deadline is for the submission of the paperwork to the FA/Football League/whichever body it is. Announcements have often followed beyond the deadline.

Christ Snowball, what a load of crap.

Bertrand was voted 2nd in our player of the season poll. Harte could prove a brilliant signing and still fall some way short of that. It's hardly writing off the guy to suggest that this replacement probably weakens the first 11 - though with two left-backs in we're stronger in terms of depth.

As for the odds - come on, I know you're not as stupid as that. We lost the Championship's hot property. We needed to improve the squad in certain areas, and as a whole we've lost quality in our first 11. Just because the bookies aren't generous enough to give you a more lucrative punt doesn't really mean sh*t.

I don't remember Bertrand as a "brilliant" defender. He could be rinsed, especially if the winger cut in on him.

Better going forward and he scored one whole goal and had three assists.

OK he was quick and I'm sure he made some last-ditch tackles when CBs got it wrong.

So defensively a 7? Attacking an 8? (That would be the best marks - he scored one goal and had three assists.)

Now say Harte is not as quick (but he's VERY experienced) and he might be a 7 in defence. But let's say only a 6.

He got EIGHTEEN goals last season and was Carlisle's top-scorer (next was 11 & 10 goals)

He also got EIGHT assists.

Point to be made is he will get a sig(geddit?)nificant number of goals, and that ought to compensate for any defensive weaknesses

If I remember correctly it took a bloody age for all the details regarding Howard/Harper/Cummings/Rosenior to come out last year after the deadline had passed.

Not sure it's all over yet.

How many free kicks have Reading hard around the oppos penalty area this season? What's the point of someone who can take a free kick ala Caskey if we don't create the pressure that results in said free kicks?
