The Cube Footage from that Villa game was on Pathe News so they would be the film-makers (they only broadcast 45 seconds, though). Reading's other known appearances on Pathe News were the 1927 FA Cup semi-final and a 1935 game, so this is the oldest football footage I know of from Elm Park.

However, there is footage of a fund-raising sports day at Elm Park held during World War 1. Someone posted a link to it a few years ago, but I didn't make a note of the link at the time, and haven't been able to track it down since.

Some bizarre action going on, but interesting to see the ground as it was then http://www.britishpathe.com/video/novel ... query/1915

Thanks.

strap Alan Sedunary has just passed me this gem of a link, with the question "How many would have been sent off in the final goalmouth scramble?" Hopefully he won't mind me sharing it with a wider audience.

Joe Duckworth certainly earned his corn that day!

23,703 at a snowbound Elm Park on 16th Feb 1929. We were 17th in the 2nd tier at the time,

No idea if this is the earliest newsreel from EP, but quality is excellent for the day, so would have been a "professional" recording.

3-0 defeat at Wigan in 1988. I think this was a standard result up there back then. RFC Union Jacks in the away end.

If anyone finds themselves a bit bored this Christmas, i'm looking for footage of the following games. No luck here so far:

Birmingham away May 1990 1-0 win, crowd trouble, Gilkes scoring the least popular reading goal ever
Tranmere away December 1990 - FOG
Chester away March 1991 - Lowest league gate for a Reading game
Tranmere home 1995 (play offs) - Seems like the 2nd leg didn't actually happen

Network Southeast ID cards introduced to the Southbank.

What a shambles that was. Huge queues to get in and the cards didn't even 'ID' you. One game I went in then lobbed my card back over the wall for a mate to use.

And some pre season training on Kensington Rec 1986

1. Agreed, a complete waste of time money and effort. Still got my card but i dont actually remember ever using it and i was a season ticket holder at the time. Club should have ignored the idea and spend the 10 grand on keeping kevin bremner.
2. Annie Bassett! Whatever became of her? Seem to recall she was about as popular with the fans as the idea for an ID card system
3. 3 quid to watch the Royals. Bet you all moaned that was still too much to atch a bunch of no hopers.

Nice footage of the Southbank. I used to make a day of it for a pound! 35p day return from Bracknell, 35p @ Tilehurst End turnstile,5p transfer into the Southbank and 10p for a program. Cup of Bovril if it was cold from the Southbank tea bar. Could stand and swear to my hearts content with no facepaint or jesters hat in sight.

Seem to remember Annie Bassett wound up at Birmingham City after us. A kind of proto Karren Brady only without the looks, charm or business acumen. She looked like a cross between Brian May and Zelda from Terrahawks.

She went to Fulham when they got to the PL courtesy of Al Fayed's money. I was guest in the sponsors lounge some months after Demon Internet had taken over as shirt sponsors from Pipex (Demon were a client of mine). At the end, Diddy David Hamilton called on Annie to present one of the Demon party with a momento of the evening. She gave a short speech thanking them for their sponsorship and proceeded to hand him a replica kit.... with the old sponsor on it. It was beyond embarrassing, and I was the only one to laugh out loud. She looked a little lost, and very red faced after that.

Just found this whilst checking up Percy Freeman's recent passing.

FAC1 v Hendon Nov 88, with Iain Dowie at 9 for them.

If anybody has any footage of the FA Cup 3rd Round match in 1996 v Gillingham, I have very little recollection of the events that day other than we were 1-0 down at half time to a Mark Evans header, won 3-1 thanks to goals from Trevor Morley and Jimmy Quinn (2), and Gillingham had two men sent off, what for I have no idea, and the Gillingham fans behaved pretty poorly throughout, so much so that this 13 year old boy was compelled to write into the club to express my disgust. Usually I'm pretty good at remembering events in matches, but this is one of the few matches that I have little recollection of...

This was the only game I missed all season because I had to go to my granddad's 80th birthday. We got Man Utd (I think) in the next round and they prioritised tickets to anyone who'd been to the Gillingham game :o My mum wrote to the club without telling me and they sent me a ticket, fair play to them but lol@me getting bailed out by my mum

Tony Le Mesmer Tranmere home 1995 (play offs) - Seems like the 2nd leg didn't actually happen

Shit, I literally binned all my VHS cassettes this Christmas when I was back at my parents' house. I had pretty much everything from the 90s including the match highlights of this game. It wasn't broadcast live so I taped it off Meridian when I got home.

Chris Makin headed wide when he probably should have scored. Scott Taylor had a brilliant chance to win it when he was freed one v one but the keeper saved. Then we all ran on the pitch.

That was about it.

I had the Granada recording of that game with Elton Welsby and Lou Macari presenting. Welsby was almost in tears and Macari was an ungracious w@nker, claiming Tranmere were the better team over 2 legs.

I too binned a load of old VHS tapes just before Christmas including loads of 90's highlights off the Football League Show.

Nice one chap.

LOL @ Tony Pulis being sent from the dugout for disputing the first challenge from, presumably, the same Neil Smith that was to sign for Reading just under four years later? Horrible challenge, the like of which we rarely see these days.

And that pitch...!!

Discussing this with Handbags earlier this week. He often rings me at 3am to ask my recollections on RFC games from 20 years ago, perhaps I should change my number.

My recollection was the Gills scored at their end and about 3,000 away fans went mental. Mind plays tricks. Perhaps I was confusing this with their lamentable behaviour pre-match when they sang through a minutes silence. Good to see NeiLOL Smith get stuck in 8) Pulis has always been a horrible ****.
