Team for Burnley (H)

by leww_rfc » 02 Jan 2011 10:49

Depending on whether McAnuffs better or not i think Antonio should be given a start if not, Hopefully Leigertwood will have recovered if not i think Tabb in, in his place. Armstrong naturally in to handle Eagles but as he wasn't even on the bench Saturday assuming hes injured, Harte in.

Feds

Griffin
Pearce
Mills
Armstrong/Harte

McAnuff/Antonio
Karacan
Leigertwood/Tabb
Kebe

Long
Hunt

If Howard doesn't play, I'm happy.

I hope he makes me eat humble pie if he starts against Burnley but I just think that Antonio doesn't yet have the tactical discipline to be a starter at this level. A good loose cannon to throw on if we need something to happen. HRK isn't great defensively and still has a lot to prove but I think he is a safer pair of feet at the moment if Jobi is still struggling.

I would keep the defence the same and reinstate Karacan, Leigertwood if fit (Tabb otherwise) and Hunt.

and Mills?
Theres no point shuffling our centrebacks again when i thought Mills and Pearce both had a decent game yesterday.

Because I'd be concentrating on selling him and Church and bringing in some proper strikers. He's had his goalscoring run for the season.

Because Pearce and Zurab are a better-organised unit based on seeing both pairs this season.

I'd like to see Church and Howard given a run in the team - for that I think McAnuff has to be playing as he is another one of our better passers who always looks to keep the ball down and moving. If McAnuff isn't available I'd go with Robson-Kanu, Leigterwood and Hunt in their place. In which case I'd probably bring Harte in for Armstrong as well for set piece delivery.

Church, Howard, and HRK (except for a late flurry) did not look Championship standard yesterday

Burnley will target Harte, I think, (if he plays)
might be as well to play Stretch just to confuse them

Usual back 5 but maybe Stretch for Harte.

Elwood if he's OK, if not play Kish in front of the back four. (Doubt that this will happen but we need to be extra good defensively tomorrow.)

The other midfielder I expect will be Karacan. If not Tabb, but Howard should only play in a 5-man midfield.

We need McAnuff. He keeps the ball well. His absence cost us the points at Swansea as HRK was dire for the first 20 minutes and not brilliant for the next 25 except for one run. He did improve in the second half TBF and he may still make it, but is not remotely a starter yet.

If McAnuff can't play I'd risk giving Antonio 90 minutes. He's naive and raw, but he can win games IMO

If we are going 4-4-2 it has to be Long-Hunt. Long is Mr Reliable ATM and Hunt will want to make a point. I have no idea what has happened to Church but he looks lost most of the time. IMO Hunt would have buried both those chances at Swansea.

looking at the defence... my guess would be Antonio based on that

Sandman - I couldn't give a flying one about Mills giving anyone the finger. I'd rather play Khiz because he's better and more reliable.
