Pre-season Friendlies - Help required

by handbags_harris » 14 Mar 2011 22:23

Trying to research a number of pre-season friendlies on the interweb and there are four games that I know I attended, but I have little or no recollection of and that I can't find details for. Can people help with the following opposition scorers?

27/07/96
Reading 1-2 West Ham United (Archie scored a minute after West Ham went 2-0 up)

31/07/99
Reading 0-3 Southampton (I know Le Tissier played this and we were well beaten)

29/07/00
Reading 1-1 Southampton (Keith Jones scored a stonking volley, Saints equalised with the last kick)

Lastly, the Bromley v Reading XI friendly on 23 July 09, anyone know who scored in that? I know a triallist scored, and also that we had a cracking chat with Eamonn Dolan with a couple of Exeter City fans, and that's it...

Any help much appreciated.

I'm sorry I couldn't provide the name of the scorers, but I remember this game a little, I think this was the one when Mark Hughes crocked Phil Parkinson....

I have a vast collection of old programmes and can help with the Southampton and West Ham games:-

31/7/99 Reading 0 Southampton 3 ( Le Tissier, Ostenstad (2)), Att 5,780. Referee Rob Harris avoided using his cards by ordering the substitution of Kachloul, Le Tissier and Reading's Keith Scott. Parky was stretcheed off after a 50/50 challenge with James Beattie.

Reading line-Up: Howie, Gurney, Casper, Hunter, Gray, Brebner, Parkinson, Caskey, Hodges, Williams, Scott; Subs Bernal, Kromheer, Brayson, McIntyre, McLaren, Crawford

Details taken from the extensive match report included in the home programme v Bristol City 7/8/99.

27/7/96 Reading 1 (Archie Lovell 39) West Ham 2 (Robbie Slater, Michael Hughes). Robbie Slater, born in Lancashire but raised in Australia, sprinted clear to put the Hammers in front after 14 minutes and some dazzling Paolo Futre footwork set up Michal Hughes to slam home a great shot from the edge of the box on 38 minutes. The Royals' response came barely a minute later when Martin Williams' persistance hustled the Hammers' defence into a blunder and he forced the ball across the six yard box for Archie Lovell to make it 2-1. Archie thought he'd levelled it 10 minutes after the break when he left Ludek Miklosko stranded with a delicate chip but saw the ball clip the crossbar.

Details taken from home programme v Sheffield United 17/8/96.

29/7/00 Reading - Southampton - Sorry can't help with this one.

I was going to chip in with Robbie Slater - I actually remember the goal for some bizarre reason.

I think it was Uwe Rosler with the Saints equaliser from memory, in the 2000 friendly.
