I think we should stick to the premise that all Pompey fans are cnuts. If we start making exceptions, where will that leave us? Being a Pompey fan is morally only one notch above being a child molester, end of.

Fair point, although I think Dave was both.

Generally I think we've been on a reasonably equal par with Portsmouth when we've played them since 1982, only the year they were promoted the the Prem were they obviously far ahead of us.

We also have a dreadfully crap record at Fratton Park since 1982, but did at least manage a win there back in 1997 and have scored goals there (so perhaps we should appeal the the FL to play Saturday's game there instead)!

I remember a game at FP when Paul Hall scored last minute winner. Reading were about par then. There was a game at Elm park when Pompey won 1 nil (Alan Ball was manager) when Reading were much higher placed. Your first season in the Prem you were one place higher I think. the rest I think Pompey would have been favs. This week of course Reading are clear favs.

Based on weight of players? Size of supporters?

As Pompey fans are one notch above Saints fans, what are you suggesting here?

I am beginning to like this Kieran fella. Not developing a cyber-man-crush on him or anything (not ruling anything out mind) but I like his knowledge of history and delicate use of irony. I bet he still wears a hooped earring, mind.

We never get any luck against them - remember that long haired ginger git Alan Biley diving and getting a pen at Town End year we went down in early 1980's - was Neil Webb's first game back at Elm Park after he had left the previous summer.

That was a joke as well - Frank Waller sold him for £80K to a third tier club when top tier clubs were after him.

It was more than 80k. Nearer 300k? But like you I could not believe he went to another third division club. Pompey must have been paying wages way above the going rate for the time. Some things never change.

Mentioned it before but on one of my many visits (and defeats) at Fratton park I was once threatened an offered out by a numpty in a wheel chair. Charming fans

From my personal observations most Pompey fans are backward and look like Plug out of the Bash Street Kids. (From the Beano comic for those who are unaware).
Very strange bunch summed up by the idiot with the bell.

As for the match on Saturday. I expect we will lose as normal

Just checked - transfer fee was £87.5K - no add ons mentioned but they were rare in those days anyway.

Seem to remember we sold Steve Hetzke to Blackpool for £10K at the same time??

Anyone else not actually really care about Pompey? Went there a couple of times, the stand was shit, never went back. I'm over it.

I could cope with our awful record against them if it weren't for the rank awfulness of Fratton Park for the visiting fan (I am all for sh*t, old-school football grounds, but Fratton Park takes the p*ss) and the pikey nature of the locals. Like you, I could always choose not go back, but that's what they'd be expecting us to do.

It's not as if I am perpetuating a myth of any remotely serious rivalry here, that would be a little like Bournemouth's one-sided hatred of Reading which always just feels a bit like being hated by Gordon the Gopher :| . I just don't like the town, club, ground and - of course, chiefly - our record against them. I quite like Fred Dineage, mind.
