McCarthy commands the box he comes for crosses, Federici does not.

McCarthy get the nod from me.

mccarty for me. his positioning and commanding of his area is a lot better than federici. he's a more composed goalie and also we've seen equally a very good shot-stopper. federici is a good shot stopped but after that he's very average.

Federici for Brian and he's the one whose opinion counts.

McCarthy for me. More assured and an equally good shot stopper. Imagine if we could get £2mill or so for Fedders. We could hopefully sort out the left back problem with that, and not be any weaker as a team without him.

Federici for someone who has his coaching qualifications and has been in the game a long time. As opposed to a bloke on the internet who can never engage in a debate and instantly dismisses anyone who has a different opinion to him.

I won't be making the mistake of clicking on display this post again.

McCarthy for me, although it's close. My decision is also based on what's best for seasons to come. Federici's decision making and positioning is not great and he makes too many mistakes that he shouldn't. He does pull off spectacular saves, but I'd rather have a player I trust in goal.

Royalee McCarthy according to anyone with a brain.

Whilst I prefer McCarthy, I find the idea that McDermott doesn't have a brain frankly ridiculous, especially coming from a man unable to get his head around the opinion of anybody else.

sandman Federici for Brian and he's the one whose opinion counts.

Just like Coppell's opinion was the one that counted when he drove us to a totally avoidable relegation by always picking favourites like Harper ahead of those he only signed as "spares" and the young players he sent on loan or sold..........................go find the last post bemoaning Harper's departure.

I didn't see yesterday's match but it would seem that YET AGAIN!! amongst some decent stops there were elementary errors from the man McD refuses to drop. I for one will never forgive him if we lose our talented young keepers because he can't see beyond his favourite.

Brian's is at a cross roads. He can take this club forward or become Coppell Mk 2.

I'm praying he will opt to fix his creaking defence by dropping the keeper who has made NO progress in the last 2 season's and replacing those ageing full backs, one of which has a ready made replacement in Cummings who does well when he plays but always gets "Coppelled" as soon as Griffin returns.

I believe Brian can be a better manager than Steve Coppell but this could be the beginning of the end unless he wakes up and smells the coffee.

Ideal McCarthy, anyone who can't see how Federici is at fault for the 2nd goal need to have their head checked.

Would you not say he could have certainly gone to claim for the 1st goal as well? Surely a keeper needs to be going for those?

urz13 Federici for me.

So he can deflect more crosses and shots into the path of the opposition?

Swansea and yesterday for recent examples.

Federici - World class shot stopper, great distribution. Lacks everything else you need in a good keeper
McCarthy - Maybe needs to work on his kicking, everything else top draw

Bring back Mac!

I'll just rehash what I said on the other thread on this subject :

Svlad Cjelli This may just be personal prejudice on my part, but I've just never warmed to him (Federici)

He comes across as arrogant and ostentatious (for instance by turning an unduly large number of pretty routine saves into "camera saves" - (including a blatant one at the end, yesterday)) and his words to the effect of "come and get me, I'm too big for this club" on Sky Sports News has only reinforced this view. They also showed him as extremely ungrateful to the one club that took a risk on him and did so much to make him.

And as to ability - yes he's a good shot-stopper, but even now I think there are questions about his positioning, and whenever he's in goal there's a part of me that's nervous and thinks that the next calamity is just around teh corner. But Alex McCarthy just looks the part completely - I've got complete confidence in him when he's in goal. He looks like he was born to play there.

And whilst at the moment Federici may be a better 'keeper than McCarthy, I don't think Federici will get much better, whereas McCarthy has got the potential to be a way, way better 'keeper than Federici ever can.

Right now I resent Federici because I feel he's standing in the way of McCarthy's development as a world-class 'keeper, whereas I don't believe Federici will never be more than a very-good 'keeper.

But I suspect the decisions being made at the moment aren't just being based on goalkeeping ability. The top two are so close in ability that the "not pissing off Federici" factor comes into play. It's easier to play him and keep him as number one than have the hassle of having him and his ego offended.
