Memorable first RFC game of the season

by readingbedding » 07 Aug 2011 08:47

3-2 against Boro
0-0 against Manchester Utd
3-0 against Luton
0-1 against Wolves
and that game where Neale Cooper made his debut against Hull, 1992?

Wasn't the first game. There were about three away before that.

That was definitely a good one. Kitson equalized a minute later. 3-2 v Boro in 2006 has to win it though.

3-2 vs M'boro is one of the greatest games I've ever seen, let alone one of the greatest first games of the season.

Millwall was entertaining and ultimately rewarding. It beats Forest 0-0, Forest 0-0, Plymouth 1-2, which are the only others I can definitely remember seeing.

Reading 2-1 Bristol City always sticks out in my mind.

3-2 against Boro is in a different league when it comes to season openers though :!:

Wolves away in 1994 was memorable for me even though we lost the game 1-0.

We'd just got promoted from 3rd tier and it was about the time the top 2 leagues were going all seater and I remember how impressive Moleneux looked and how good the atmosphere was when the teams came with the Liquidator blaring out of the tannoy.

They scored early on but we then played the pre season favourites off the park with Quinny missing an open goal near the end.

SLAMMED Middlesbrough part 1 and part 2

Fantastic. An boyishly youthful-looking Bryn on the bench next to Kitson after HT.

I remember beating Stockport 6-2 Trevor Senior scored a brilliant 5 minute hat trick. A legend was born!

The Plymouth 2-1 defeat on the opening day quickly followed by a 33 game unbeaten run finishing the season with 106 points and promotion to the premier league.
