Massively more consistent last season, has turned into a strong, determined player with quality.
One of the best players outside the top flight.
Deserves his chance in the top flight of football as an established player - shame it's not with us.
Simon Cox must be getting a bit sick of him.

Having missed the whole of last season while travelling the world.
When I left you couldn't trap a bag of cement and clearly something remarkable happened and we managed to find someone to buy you for crazy money, thanks for ? being Kevin Doyle's mate

According to his Mum he took seriously his lack of first touch and spent hours practising - and do you know it worked 8)

Thanks Shane for being a great player for us, a nice guy who was willing to treat supporters as real people and most of all for your sub appearance at Anfield that gave us such a great evening in the snow.

More saddened to see Shane go than Kevin Doyle .. with Shane I knew we had someone who could fill the void but who now ?

Thanks for all your hard graft Shane. You'll be missed as a bloke and as a goalscorer. I'm really chuffed you've gone to work for 'Uncle Woy' as he seems to back his players no matter what and this should help you become the proven PL player I know you can be.

Thanks for the great moments in both FA Cup runs, the super-sub moments in your early days, and for the last year and a half where you've been unplayable at times. You were part of the most successful Reading team ever, so you quite rightly won't be forgotten. All the best at WBA. At least I can still support you when playing for Ireland

I was traveling to Ireland from Japan in 2005, and have read a newspaper in Cork that two boys going to move from Cork City to Reading.
Doyle was pretty much established goal scorer locally by that time, but not Long.
Since then, it has been pleasure to see two irish lads to be acknowledged football players by both Premiership and International level.
It has been a great journey with you Shane. Your hard work and willingness to contribute to the team will always make your way like this time. I will be supporting you wherever you go!

But that wind up post that had Shane supposedly thanking Snowball for his turn around in form was one of the Team Board's greatest moments :D

Seriously though credit to Snowwy for sticking by him and having his predictions come true. At least he was spouting stuff in SUPPORT of a player rather than spouting nonsense to tear someone down.

All the best Longy. Thanks for the two goals against Derby, the two against Villa that had me thinking (briefly) of Wembley, and the winner against the Bindippers that started you on the road to where you are now. Good luck at the Baggies.
