Best RFC pitch invasions of our time

by floyd__streete » 20 Sep 2011 13:43

How many can you claim then? I am claiming 6:

1994 - 2nd division Champions. I love the footage on Year of the Royals of the bloke behind the Tilehurst goal belly-flopping onto the back of the net when Quinny nutted the second.

1995 - Reading 0-0 Tranmere, qualifying for Wembley.

1996/97 - Reading 1-6 Palace, Quinn Out. After he had apparently offered out Dariusz Wdowczyk in training a week or two before. Uri Gellar attempted to placate us via a megaphone

1997/98 - Reading 0-3 Port Vale, Bullivant Out. Best bit of this was carrying the protest round to the front of the main office on Norfolk Road. By the time we got round, Vale were showered and changed and to a man they were politely applauded back onto their coach. Apart from Martin Foye, who got a chant of 'Aldershot reject' to general LOLz all round (apart from Foyle who grumpily frowned).

2005/06 - Reading 5-0 Derby.

2009/10 - Scunny 2-2 Reading, Scunny stay up. FLTLR found a side gate so we joined in the jubilation 8)

Any memories? Has anyone ever punched a Reading/opposition player in a pitch invasion? Furthermore, does anyone want to own up to abusing Paul Bodin on the Norfolk Road after one game?

94/95 - Notts County and the fire alarm due to a smouldering pipe in someone's pocket shenanigans.

Word, stalled a bit as we headed for the non-fenced area of the south bank only to realise Gilksey was taking the next pen and he'd missed at the weekend

Derby 2006 was the dullest ever, it's not the same sedately walking down from your seat and strolling across the pitch as people take photos of themselves on their phones

1994 - Blackpool 0-4 Reading - race to the centre circle to eat a pie after the first goal went in.

1994 - Bournemouth 2-1 Reading - for pretty much the entire match.

1992 - Slough town 3-3 Reading - wall collapses, fans spill onto pitch, well known ginger football hooligan does a toilet on one of the goal posts.

1994 - Reading 3-2 Plymouth Argyle - Last minute pile driver by Quinn followed by Myself and mate in Heavy Metal Leather jackets and skin tight jeans jumping on the crowd of players in front of the Southbank

Oh yes, indeed. Great fun. There's something missing these days from clamouring around the players tunnel after dreadful performances and calling for the manager/chairmen's head. Perhaps Reading just aren't bad enough for long enough any more...

For the record, I presume there must have been pitch invasions in 1983 with regard to Mr Waller and Mr Maxwell's brilliant idea to merge with Oxford, anyone recall those?

Most bizarre:

Brentford 1-1 Reading 01/02

In the Mad Stad after watching us go up on the big screens.

Pitch invasion with 3 empty stands, one half empty following pitch invasion, running around with no-one to congratulate

Apr 96 - Reading 3 Wolves 0 (including the Quinn wonder-goal from the edge of the box) to avoid relegation.

Bristol City (H) 1988/89. We lost and we were 1 game away from back to back relegations to the 4th Division. I was on the pitch with a 5ft inflatable banana and managed to get into Norfolk Rd before the Police could stop hundreds getting there. Smee came out and I reminded him that he said at the start of the season that he said that it was Branfoot's responsibility to sort the mess that was relegation the previous season out. He even repeated what I said on Radio 210.

Bristol City (H) 1983/84. Ful scale riot by invading thugs from the west country. I watched from the Tilehurst End while for an hour their thugs had a free run of the South Bank. Then, something snapped and the old boys etc went piling in. Never seen the South bank empty so quickly as they struggled to get away from flying zimmer frames.

I remember the Port Vale one. I was second on the pitch! I had been off work the week before and ended up with my face on the front page of the Scrote. Embarrassment all round when the big boss wanted a word when I returned to work. I remember the chant "Nice ground, no fans" and Madejski (no knighthood) did his usual V sign crap. 10 minutes later he was spouting forth about refusing to succomb to mob rule. Pcunt!

Brilliant. "WE WILL NOT GIVE IN TO MOB RULE!"
