Right about Kebe

Right that we would do better using the Siggy money to improve the defence

Right About Long last year when being laughed at.

Right about making the POs last year when being laughed at.

Right THIS YEAR when I say we'll comfortably make the POs and will go VERY close to automatic

lolwut

Using this logic you think 40 games is a better guide to where we'll finish than 46?

Madness.

No. I think 46-Game points DECIDES, obviously, but

CURRENT FORM is a MUCH better predictor of points-still-to-be-won

Here is a nice easy prediction.

I predict that Reading FC will be in the top three points winners for the last 18 games

(Note Birmingham have 19 games, so I'm talking ppg)

I actually think we will be TOP of the 18-Game ppg table, or a VERY close second

And as there are a lot of muppets here, that ISN'T saying we will win the league.

It is ONLY saying how well we will do for the next 18 games.

If Cardiff, West Ham, Saints, Birmingham come close to matching our ppg, we can't make auto.

I don't think they all will and I think it will go to the final day

rfc2001 MCD is tactical mind game wizard. Everything he's says just brings confidence. His honest assessments gives me confidence that he isn't delusional and knows what is going on. He has a plan, he understands what he's wants to achieve and how to play! It's just a slow process after losing sig long ect

Agreed. I believe he sets us up not to concede and hoped we'd nick points.

Now watch us open up just a bit looking to score a few more.

Who wants to bet we will average more goals per game for this last 18 games?

Sorry to but in on the stat-fest, but why do you think we'll be opening up and looking to score more?

Unfortunately I don't think we'll be going out to do anything too different over the next half a dozen or so games. We'll basically still have the same back 5 and midfield as we've not strengthened in the middle of the park. The only change we might see at the back is a centre half potentially filling in a left back (I'm not convinced this is the plan at all, I think Connelly is here purely as a centre half).

Yes we've added Roberts who should be a good addition upfront and one that will help us win and keep the ball in the final third more but I don't think that will see us commit more men forward earlier in games. It will just mean that we may be able to stop the ball coming back quite so much (which could mean we score goals of course but I'm not convinced).

Ok, two can play at that game. I predict we will be in the top 8 in the Championship table after the last 28 games. I formulated my forecast using the table, the art of looking at the table and reading where we were in the table.

Snowball Right about Kebe

What about him?

Snowball Right that we would do better using the Siggy money to improve the defence

How do you know how we'd have done if we could've kept him?

Snowball Right About Long last year when being laughed at.

Fair play, he certainly turned things around. His scoring was still inflated by his share of penalties though so you weren't quite as right as you like to make out (he was excellent at winning them admittedly).

Snowball Right about making the POs last year when being laughed at.

Give you that one, most didn't see the capitulation by the likes of Burnley, Leeds and others around us coming let alone our own good form. Your powers of foresight are a credit to you if not your stats!

Snowball Right THIS YEAR when I say we'll comfortably make the POs and will go VERY close to automatic

Lets hope so. I think there's a hell of a long way to go yet, and we might yet see this side strengthened further with a loan signing or two if necessary, but I wouldn't be too surprised if we continue to get good results whilst churning out some pretty dull performances.

Hurrah! An actual opinion. Sort of. Well done.

So what you're saying is play offs but not automatic. Close of course means we dont quite make auto.

1. Confidence in the attackers

2. A better Number 9 who the ball won't bounce off so often.

3. A better number 9 who will improve Hunt>Alf>Church

4. A direct attacking midfielder with an eye for goal.

5.We will win more balls, sooner in defence, and break more intelligently (already seeing signs of that with Gorkks, Pearce (and now Connolly)

6. Better defenders might mean that the midfield can be more expansive.

7. OVERALL confidence, due to better players, TSI, getting into the mix

8. Hunt-Alf-Church etc having to fight harder for a start berth.

9. Another loanee from the Premiership

Unfortunately I don't think we'll be going out to do anything too different over the next half a dozen or so games. We'll basically still have the same back 5 and midfield as we've not strengthened in the middle of the park. I'm not sure but I believe he will play as soon as he's fit. Much as I love Pearce, if that ends up at CB, we'll probably be better.

I hope it will be LB though and that IMO will make us MUCH stronger

Yes we've added Roberts who should be a good addition upfront and one that will help us win and keep the ball in the final third more but I don't think that will see us commit more men forward earlier in games. Well, you've answered your own question

If we can turn 52-49 % possession into 54-46, and we have a guy who WILL win pens
and get some goals... I predict..

We are currently 12th best for goals at 1.25 per goal

I expect us to score nearer (1.75), about 30 goals in the next 18 games

Pinned to the mast. We shall see.

If we had 24 games I would say automatic

But it's just 18 and it's too easy to play well and lose 1-0 at Boro, Saints, West Ham, Birmingham.

The fewer games to go the more it becomes a case of luck.

I believe we will be second (on the last day) or third, just missing.

But a top-quality loanee AM and we really can make autos.

it always comes down to luck tho. We could play Birmingham off the park
and lose or they might ouplay us but we get a lucky win

you can't legislate for Hahneman spilling the ball v Brum, or the stupid Hull goals (2)

Both those games easily could have been 0-0 and Hull would be 11th!!

Fair enough. I'd expect Roberts to have a positive impact on the number of goals, but just not that much. Perhaps it's just a matter of how much.

The biggest thing that's stopped up scoring a lot of goals is the way McDermott seems to send us out to keep it tight. I don't see that changing with the current central midfield options and I can't see Cywka forcing a change in that policy.

Snowball I know we have a horrible April, but I think it's the next 8 games that will decide where we finish.

I think the next 18 games will decide where we finish.

I think it's the 46 games overall that will decide where we finish.

Totally screwed over by that dreadful start to the league season; crap performances v Millwall, Portsmouth and Hull, a total disgrace v Watford, somewhat unlucky v Barnsley yet a brilliant performance at Leicester.

Will 5 of those 6 games end up costing us this season?
