Perfect example today of why we're going down.

Played well, but created nothing and never looked like troubling Man Utd. Other teams in our position have given them more of a scare this season. Lacking in final third.

And you expected something from this game at Old Trafford? We (or anybody else visiting) have got results there on a regular basis? We played smart football and tried to nick something...didn't come off but I have seen Manchester Utd embarass much better teams at Old Trafford. C'mon, keep it real dude...

Good effort. Utd never really had to get out of second gear but we matched them well. Just not enough upfront, although we should have had a clear penalty. So basically the difference was luck, the right deflection for them, the wrong call from the ref for us.

Very pleased with the shift in playing style from Dolan. With the return of Pog 4-5-1 becomes more viable. When Kebe's back it will also help give us an option to bring on a pacey winger to go at tired legs. Not sure about central midfield, I'd lean more towads Akpan and Guthrie, with McAnuff or HRK ahead, but it would be a lot more open...

What is wrong with you? What exactly did you expect today? Gung ho tactics & subsequently a heavy defeat. Take your head out of your ass. Are you about 10 years old or something?

We need to be hard to beat first & foremost.

Scoring comes second I'm afraid. If we'd set up like that all year we'd have 30 + points.

For the 1st time in months we had a central midfield that actually contributed to a game, down to Dolan's game strategy.

FFS what are some of u on about? We have just played the PL champions 15 points clear and we lost 1-0 big deal, i think it was a great effort, but for me the most pleasing thing was the performance we looked like a decent team today

See i can post something positive

A deserved defeat.

No change there

Lol @ trying to look for differences now be it determination, style! Looking decent etc etc.

A brave 1 goal deificit, no difference to Brian's game against Man U. No different to usual. Nothing has changed

except Harte didn't start, thank God. That's the only positive of today.

Must get manager ASAP. Or shouldn't have sacked King Brian.

Last time we played Man Utd our passing was awful. We played much better in midfield this time.

Our defence was also much more solid this time. Rooney and Van Persie were rested for the Reading-Man Utd FA cup match.

In the FA Cup match Federici was arguably our best player, he had to make loads of saves to keep the scoreline down. Today Taylor only had to make 2 or 3 not that difficult saves.

It was a much better performance, against a stronger Utd side.

King Brian? get your head out of his fecking arse, early days but today was light years away from anything we have produced all season.

A better performance from a more balanced team looking to play a more considered style of football. That's kind of encouraging but of course the result remains the same and we'll never know what McDermott might've come up with if he'd still been in charge.

My underlining thought is that the team appear to have been allowed to express themselves a little more and play in a formation that helped them do that and helped them stay in the game a little more. Having said that it was, in McDermotts parlance, 2-0 football as there was no pressure on us to get anything from today's game and that makes a lot of difference in my book.

I hope a few of the pundits who've called the club stupid for removing McDermott this week take stock of that improved performance and consider their ill-informed bleatings next time.

Agreed and had we been given that clear penalty (Mason was clearly shitting himself at the prospect of Fergie's rage) we might have come away with something from the game.

Well done to the travelling support too.

Where was the decent performance from the team when it mattered? If you cannot put in a display at old Trafford you should retire!

You can't draw conclusions from one game FFS.

However we did control the ball better in the middle of the park and a 1-0 defeat to the champions elect is nothing at all to be ashamed of.

In saying that we did and will continue to pay the same price that we have paid all season. The fans all knew it and by the end of the summer transfer window I'm sure the management knew it.

We so desperately need an attacking central midfielder.
