Royals and Racers U23`s next in PL2 action on Monday evening January 24th away at Aston Villa KO 7pm. The match is being played at the Bodymoor heath training ground.

Match is live on Villa TV so goals might appear on you tube in a few days time.

Presumably with no midweek game for the first team, and players coming back from injury, it should be a stronger team than the last couple of games.

Bottom of the table, below average bunch this year by the looks of it.

A tad harsh. We had a massive clear out of 19-21 year old players in the summer due to the financial issues and this season we have typically played mainly 17-19 year olds. Many other teams are retaining players in the 19-22 age group and so will have an advantage.

Or is it because the best players at u23 level are constantly having to fill the numbers in the first team due to the injuries and everyone moves up a level, perhaps one they’re not ready for, leading to disappointing and disjointed performances?

Yep worth considering that McIntyre, Holmes, Azeez, Camara, Clarke and Bristow all qualify to play at that level. Not counting the recently signed Bashiru

Also Tetek, Ashcroft. They've also lost a few - Ehibhatiomhan and Samuels to injury who are rated.

They wouldn't be where they are had we not been forced to keep playing the young players in the first team squad

Would imagine that even though Holmes and TMc would qualify, they would probably be around the first team anyway. But certainly Azeez, Camara, Clarke and Bristow would be u23 regulars and maybe only get on the bench here and there/be involved for cup games.
