Team for Charlton (A)

by Royal Ginger » 29 Mar 2014 22:37

With Morrison, Guthrie & Williams back we've got a few choices again. Bridge not far off a return could start a few arguments too. Now that Hector has his start i think we may have seen the end of Gorkss :(

I'd go with:

--------------------McCarthy-----------------------

Gunter-------Pearce--------Hector---------Obita

-----------------Guthrie----------------------------
McCleary-----------------Williams-------McAnuff

--------Pogrebnyak------Le Fondre---------------

Subs: Federici, Kelly, Morrison, Akpan, Taylor, Robson-Kanu, Blackman

Although i suspect we're more likely to see HRK or Drenthe behind Pog instead of Le Fondre.

......................McCarthy
....Gunter..Pearce..Hector..Obita
......Williams.Guthrie.Akpan
Drenthe..............................McAnuff
...................Pogrebnyak

Federici, Kelly, Morrison, Taylor, HRK, McCleary, ALF.

but I reckon Morro will get another game and we'll see hrk or mccleary instead of one of the midfielders.

McCarthy; Gunter, Hector, Pearce, Obita; Williams, Guthrie; HRK, Drenthe, McAnuff; Pogrebnyak
Subs: Federici, Morrison, Kelly, Akpan, McCleary, Blackman, Le Fondre

The same set-up that was doing well before Guthrie's suspension. Drenthe behind the striker. HRK on the right.

Wouldn't mind 4-4-2 with Le Fondre in for HRK.

It wont be 4-4-2 away from home. Adkins seems to have found his system works best away, so I expect 4-4-1-1 or however he lines them up with the one up front.

---------------------------------------- McCarthy ----------------------------------------

Gunter --------------- Morrison --------------------- Pearce ------------------- Obita

------------------------- Guthrie --------------------- Williams ------------------------

McCleary ----------------------------- Drenthe ------------------------------- McAnuff

I'd give Hector another game in midfield. Did well yesterday and I think he could adopt it to his actual position given time.

McCarthy

Gunter
Pearce
Morrison (He'll only improve with more game time)
Obita

Drenthe
Hector
Guthrie
McAnuff

Pog
ALF

Subs: Feds, Gorkss, Bridge, Williams, McCleary, Blackman, HRK

---------------------------------------- McCarthy ----------------------------------------

Gunter ------------------------------- Pearce (C)-------------------------------- Obita

------------------------- Guthrie --------------------- Hector --------------------------

---------------------------------------- Williams ------------------------------------------

McCleary ----------------------------- Drenthe ------------------------------- McAnuff

-------------------------------------- Pogrebnyak ----------------------------------------

3 - 6 -1

I'd like to see Hector and Guthrie form a defensive midfield partnership, with drenthe playing off and assisting Pog. Karacan can replace Hector when he comes back, and Morrison can replace Pearce when he's fit.
Don't see anything wrong with this. Adkins wanted lots of possession and attacking football, and he'll certainly get it with this formation.

Why would you drop McAnuff when he's the one link for all of our last 4 goals?

He's served it against Barnsley and Huddersfield.

A two season ban would suit us better.

Cannot think of a mercenary Reading player that I have liked least

Hope Andy Hughes gets a start against us etc

As you are the only one on here so far to include Kanu (2 goals this season?) I would like to know what you feel that he brings to the side.
This is a serious question.

Injuries permitting, I'd be surprised if this wasn't the team picked for saturday, possibly Drenthe switched for HRK or Blackman.

Gunter Hector Pearce Obita

Akpan
McCleary Guthrie Williams Drenthe

Pogrebnyak

I'd have Akpan sitting deep in a three man midfield, or pushing one of Guthrie / Williams forward. Guthrie IMO is much better using his passing range going forward, and was playing well more advanced at the start of the season. This would allow him that freedom
