I think this is a bit odd. Yeah we are desperate there at the moment but why not get a PL loan for 3 months? Is this guy better than any of Guthrie, Williams or Karacan?
Personally I think we need a Leigertwood replacement and a "playmaker" doesn't sound the right fit for that!

Great potential but extremely inconsistent. He should fit in perfectly, sign him up! :D

Inconsistency is sometimes a bullshit measure. Of our best players over the past 6/7 years only a handful have been consistent. Let's look at Le Fondre, Guthrie, McCleary, Convey, Harper etc. They were/are all 3 good games in 5 players at best. Apparently Norwood is 1 in 5, but he's young and should still develop naturally to a 3 in 5.

The point is that when one or two have quiet games, there's room for the other 7 or 8 to compensate for that.

Talent, attitude and consistency as the full package costs upwards of £15m nowadays, and we ain't in that ball park.

Looks an entirely logical piece of squad building.
On the basis of having competition for every position we now have Karacan vs Williams and then Guthrie vs Norwood with Kuhl and Tishbola coming through.
Midfield looking sorted if they are all fit.

Would be a decent addition to the squad. Same type of player as Guthrie really but perhaps less of the attitude.

As posted earlier I'm rather pleased with this. We've all been crying out for a 'creative' midfielder for a while and this guy fits the bill nicely. Yeah he's been inconsistent for Huddersfield but he's also shown moments of real quality and at 23 he has plenty of time to find that consistency with good coaching and playing in a better team alongside the likes of Williams and Guthrie when fit. If we was consistent, then with his quality he'd be going to a Prem side for a lot more than we're paying. He's the type of player who could really kick on after a move which is exciting.

While the feedback from the north isn't universally brilliant, he's been class every time I've seen him play for Huddersfield or Coventry so I'd be very happy to see this get over the line.

So when everyone is fit we have at least three players for every position if you include those from the academy with squad numbers.

Plus Norwood is a mixture of what I'd call a Reading type signing, and an Adkins type player.

Guthrie replacement? Would we be able to keep Danny on his current wages and would he want to stay? Is his current injury tactical and his agent is negotiating a move away or is the medical news worse than expected and he is going to struggle to get fully fit this season?

Not seen much of Norwood but if NA rates him then it would be good to get a relative youngster and mould a midfield around him.

Idea for Premier League:

1. Reading get promoted
2. Promote Oliver Norwood to Captain
3. Spend all season singing "Oliver's Army Is Here To Stay"
4. Get relegated anyway

That's my take on it. Adkins will want to avoid having to nurse injured midfielders through the back end of the campaign again. And as Winchester said, he's a little bit different to what we've already got. Makes a lot of sense.

Possibly, but I'm not sure he's the kind of midfielder that will sit in front of the back four, is he? I agree with you though, Obita needs to revert to left back as soon as we can afford that.

Sky Sports understands Reading have agreed a fee with Huddersfield Town for midfielder Oliver Norwood.

As revealed on Monday, Reading were lining up a move for the Northern Ireland international as they look to bolster their midfield options.

Norwood joined Huddersfield from Manchester United in 2012 and established himself as one of the best players in the Championship.

A number of clubs have been linked with Norwood, but Reading are poised to secure his signature.

Norwood will not be involved in Tuesday's meeting between the two sides and he is expected to undergo a medical at Reading on Wednesday.
