I have never been brave or desperate enough to use the Trainspotting single sit down trap at the top of the South Bank, or the slightly better facilities in the Madejski. I have though disabled the bogs in the hotel or Royals Rendevous after a heavy night or an evil curry on a fairly regular basis.

Way, way back in the late '70s, we had a midweek home game against Aldershot. I was on a training course in Bath for the entire week, but figured I could get back to Reading for the match. Timing was a bit tight, but I got a lift from the Twerton area of Batch to Bath Spa station and got on the train. Part way into the journey, I began to wish I'd taken a dump before leaving the training centre, so went in search of the facilities on the train. There were none (this was the 70s after all). By the time I arrived at Reading General (as it was in those days), I seemed to be in control, so jumped on a bus which took me to Elm Park. At which point I could not avoid the fact that a serious dump was required. So, for the first and only time, I ventured into the gentlemen's sit-down convenience behind the South Bank. First problem was that there was no light bulb, so I had to rely on the natural light that filtered through a small window that probably hadn't been cleaned since the days of Roy Bentley. Second problem was there was no seat. Still, I performed a successful off-load. Then I discovered the 3rd problem. No f***ing toilet paper. Why would there be? No-one ever takes a shit at football, do they? Well, apart from Robin Friday, and he used alternative facilities. As luck would have it, I had a clean handkerchief in my pocket, so used that. It grieved me to leave a cotton hankie in the bowl, and I've no doubt I contributed to another drain blockage, but at least I walked out with a clean bum. Obviously, there was no hot water to wash my hands in, but that could wait until I got back to Bath at around midnight.

The really annoying thing is, I can't recall what the score was. Pretty sure this was early October, 1977.

Since then I have ALWAYS checked there is an adequate supply of paper before embarking on a dump.

Actually I've got ulcerative colitis, an incurable chronic inflamatry bowel disease. It's unrelated to talking shit, otherwise everyone here would have it and Woodcote's case would he so severe he'd have had major surgery to remove his whole bowel and be using a baggie fornlife

Never had a shit at the ground, either Elm Park or the Madstad, I did however witness a drunk bloke take a shit in the 'urinal' at the top of the Southbank in the late eighties. Scarred me for life.

I now have a healthy distrust of people who shit at football grounds and also, unsprisingly, people who shit in urinals...
