Centre mid is the only position where we don't need anyone - Williams, Norwood, Guthrie, Karacan, Akpan, Kuhl, Tish.....

Can't see this one happening

Looking very much like a done deal.

Think based on the fact he's played for Chelsea U21 and Burnley this season, it means we can only sign him on a max 93 day emergency loan. Could be wrong on that one, though.

Worth noting Charles Watts colleague at the Trinity Mirror group, Matt Lewis (@mattlewis27 - covers Chelsea, Fulham etc) has said he expects this to be done soon as well.

Chalobah is better than almost all of those tbf, plus he's a better CB than the ones we have as well....

He's essentially a much better version of Hector.

Was going to start a thread about how much better West Ham are with Song, Chelsea with Matic, Arsenal with someone doing the defensive midfielder job properly etc... and that we don't have one.

Chalobah fits the bill perfectly.

Yes we've got hundreds of midfielders but this is what we need.

I don't think youth teams count towards the limit.

I'd only really want him as a centre back. We have four better midfielders than him (if he was as good as Guthrie, Williams or Norwood then he would probably have succeeded at Burnley), and should focus on developing Kuhl ahead of helping Chelsea with their players. If we want to use someone as a DM, Kuhl is competent there and I'm sure the others could do a good shift, but using one would rule out using Cox in his best position.

Worth a watch on youtube link below. He seems very composed for a young lad. His goal on 2 mins on the video below is impressive. Then that goal vs Leicester. ...Well. Take a bow.
He actually looks very good going forward. It appears he is thought of as a DM sort of midfield player, but im not so sure. Could link up well with Williams tbh.

Sure he must be a level above Hector if we want him as cb

. Get him in. Cant hurt.

Maybe Guthrie is on his way out? wages etc etc

FIFA class U21 games as competitive. It's the reason holding up the Ben Arfa to Nice transfer at the mo as he played for Hull and Newcastle U21. FIFA have therefore said he can't play for Nice this season as a result of playing for 2 clubs.

Could Williams be off? Another high earner no doubt.

Even if one of our midfielders did leave i'd still not really want to pay wages on another one. We'd still have 3 "first choice" midfielders with Akpan (reportedly back soon) and Kuhl as back-up too.

I'd argue that they're plenty good enough. Our problems have been Defensive howlers which Clarke has mercifully reduced and strikers not hitting the target.

Hence bringing in a 20 goal a season defensive midfielder.

Fingers crossed. Very over-rated and a high earner. I don't think we'd miss him. He's too inconsistant and injury prone.

Can't imagine he's on that much, relatively unknown from a pretty small club in Germany. He's hardly going to be on Drenthe/Pog wages.

Harsh to be suddenly slating Williams.. Was quality for us last season and is only just regaining form after a serious injury. Shows a lot of passion aswell, something that has been missing while he was out injured.
