missed tat one
I thought it would go without saying that the W next to that game was not prediction but a postdiction

Man, out of that lot the only one I could see us messing up on is Fulham away, could be a very good October indeed!

Is postdiction a word? If not, it should be. I like it.

Charlton will be harder than people think.

So you reckon just the 3-0 then?

I can't say LDLLLD F6, A12 from their last six matches fills me with concern. They concede tons of shots and whilst they score reasonably well our defence is meaner than a pre-ghosts Scrooge.

We'll know we're in for a great season if we don't throw away a great win against boro by gifting them points out of nowhere.

On paper it's a mismatch sure, but this is exactly the type of game we go into when we're expected to do well and probably come up short. Now I know this team and this season doesn't really have that feel about it, and I fully expect us to win, but all I'm saying is it wouldn't surprise me if it isn't this walk in the park 3 point banker which everyone on here would have you believe. Good results like the last 2 count for little if we don't beat the teams we should. Hopefully we can see a big performance and really stamp down their authority by getting a big win to go into Rotherham and Fullham.

How can wins against Borough and Burnley count for little in any circumstances ? They are worth 3 points and are excellent results. Not beating a lower placed side doesn't reduce those wins at all. In fact beating the teams at the top is worth more than beating the teams at the bottom as we stop our rivals picking up points....

Its more a figure of speech than to be taken 100% literally. The insinuation being that the effort, preparation and performance level would have to be greater for beating a top side then a bad one that we are expected to beat anyway.

You could say it would count for little because a win against Boro at home suggest we are a strong team, and then losing against charlton would somewhat undermine that perception and result.

I get what you're saying though and of course 3 points is 3 points, but you have to be pretty anal to not understand what I'm getting at. If so and you still have a problem with it call up Steve Clarke and tell him he's being ridiculous as well because I think he's said something a long those lines.

It is definitely more important to beat your close rivals in table positioning than those nowhere near you though. You can't win em all and if when you do slip up it's against the mid-table and lower that's preferable to those at the top (unless you're at the bottom of course). Just as long as you don't slip up a lot. And we've not (so far).

Nor have we seen evident signs that we might. It's more just preemptive, feet firmly on the ground, don't expect too much, thinking that you get accustomed to being a reading fan.

Expect to win. But don't expect you have a right to win, or you just have to turn up to achieve it. Or that the wheel won't turn to leave you at the bottom in future. And remember no club is going to make it easy for us.

This seemed the best thread to link this analysis of our attacking and defending skills:

Reading never do well playing away against inferior northern teams on cold, wet Tuesday evenings.
