John Smith Inept performance? What, assisting the first goal?

He played a part but back heels of Vydra and Norwood, especially the latter (as the defender didn't expect it) was more influential in the build up to the goal.

I'm sorry but you're going to have a hard time arguing he was anything other than shit yesterday.

I respect your opinion but you're wrong

TBM What Vydra who assisted the first goal?

Norwood*

Vydra's was a half-assist. It was possibly the best half-assist I've ever seen.

Not that bothered.
We should be using our own players as much as possible.
Hopefully Brian will get McClearly and co playing well. He always did get the very best out of players and got them performing better (Kebe, Hunt...).
We've good cover in the wide forward positions so OJ can whinge all he likes.
It'll be interesting to see Brian's preferred formation with our current squad.
We were 4-5-1 when we had Long Sigurdsson, but went 4-4-2 after he left.
We've got the players to do either formation, just short at the back following all those injuries.

O' John ahead of Mccleary for me, looks a threat the few chances he's had. GK Bond looked decent last night and was unlucky to concede .. My worry is NB going in the transfer window if £m's are on the table ..

If BM reverts to a basic 4-4-2. Then Blackman may miss out.

We are great at signing players who have some degree of pedigree and then not playing them. I still don't know if Emerse Fae was any good.

This guy has made a difference whenever I've seen him.

Shouldn't this have been Ola John, or Ola Gone?

I don't think he's done quite enough to win a place in the side yet but that was mainly down to Clarke opting on the version of 4-3-3 that didn't give the likes of John, Hurtado and McCleary much of a chance to impress. I'm not sure 4-3-3 was Clarke's first choice of a formation to be honest, I think it was almost forced on him with Blackmans scoring form that wide right position.

You didn't see his first start when he was a waste of space then.

Mostly good off the bench but poor starting has characterised his performances so far for me. Partly due to team shape. But then we've been at our best 4-3-3 and worst 4-4-2. And John's a 4-4-2 man really

McDermott loves a winger, and he made a point about saying what a strong squad he has, so I wouldn't hold your breath about many signings in January. Maybe that Powers lad from the MLS and a bargain bucket signing from the lower leagues. I'm sure John will get a chance in the coming weeks. Fresh start for all and a chance to earn a place in the stating eleven, even if they were out in the cold with the snake.

Although it's true that he's looked less lively when starting than when coming on as sub, it would be unfair to draw too many conclusions from that, as he's started so few games. If you look at what he's done overall, I think he's looked the most dangerous of our wide players so far this season, and should be getting more of a chance.

Perhaps GMac has got the nod recently because he's more help defensively, but as an attacking threat John has looked more likely, I'd say.

Firstly i don't think we should be starting wingers with this squad in the first place, secondly i don't really agree. But then i prefer a more reliable player than someone who'll have a couple of great games and four or five piss poor ones.

Besides, John's mainly played left and McCleary right, so they're simply not competing with each other.

John's up against Vydra, HRK, Piazon and Fosu.

With all our forwards being so versatile, I don't think it matters. The likes of HRK, Hurtado and Blackman are more than comfortable on either side, and several of them can also play up front. We might have a choice between a front three of John-Vydra-Blackman or Vydra-Blackman-McCleary, for example.
