No FA Cup replays and midweek rounds?

by The Royal Forester » 16 Feb 2016 20:26

It seems as though the FA is considering fundamental changes to the FA Cup, at the request of some Premier league teams,of course. Do you think playing FA Cup games in midweek and no replays will be a good idea? If not, how can the lower league supporters show the FA our feelings?

Change for change$ sake.....vote NO

Premier teams have enough resources to sustain replays and the lesser competitions ( the league cup has proven this)....... Guess $ky and the other subscription channels will have the ultimate say.

The FA won't entertain no replays; it'd be crazy for them to even consider it, seeing as that would drop the amount of matche$ in the competition by what, a good 30% (complete guess!).

If they did seriously look at it (which they won't) they need to look at the French cup which is now in the 11th? round.

I imagine it's the CL/EL clubs who would push this hardest but with they way the English representation is performing at present the European games will only become fewer anyway.

Surely the issue is the overelaborate structure of the European leagues.
We played fewer games when we were in the Premiership.
What exactly is the point of the Europa League? Get rid of that first.

get rid of the pointless 1st group stage of champions league.

no problem with midweek night games.
big issues with no replays. getting a draw at home and getting to play the replay at a prem ground has been vital for small clubs over the years

I wouldn't worry as this doesn't affect Reading.

This year over 7000 teams entered the French cup. As they count places like Reunion and Guadaloupe and Tahiti as France, the 6th round had 11 overseas clubs making it through.

In terms of scale, the FA cup is minute in comparison.

Won't happen. Exeter made enough to survive for another couple of seasons by getting a replay at Liverpool. Clubs like will perish without cup runs.

Why fix what is, and never will be broken as it's the oldest and greatest sporting competition in the world.

It will do if they correct the English cup formats in order to accomodate the bloated European fixture lists.
Any fixture congestion in the UK is a UEFA problem, not a FA problem.

well it's already been fundamentally changed as there used to be an "unlimited" number of replays (look up Hillingdon v Sutton-iirc- in the 70's) and no penalty shoot-outs.

If you abolish replays then you should
1. In ties between teams in different divisions (or where the number of places between the teams exceeds a chosen number - say 28) then the lower placed team has the choice of whether to play home or away
2. Under the above criteria the lower ranked team shall be considered to have won the tie if the game is drawn after extra time.

Just to give the smaller clubs a bit of redress....

I fcuking hate replays, so I wouldn't be bothered with that.

I'd be more happy if they moved the semi to a different neutral venue, but not over two legs.

F*ck our FA. An incompetent shambles of an organisation with no credibility and which commands zero respect from the fans. Our FA are in the pocket of the greedy big clubs who want all the benefits and none of the responsibility from being at the very top of our game; it is no coincidence that many of these clubs are foreign owned.

If Exeter v Liverpool had to be settled on the night, Exeter's chances of winning would have been better than they were by going to a replay.
