The Cap Has to be Ady Williams, shirley. He's always going on about how he would love the job and could sort 'things' out. Okay, tongue now being extracted from cheek.

Did a bang up job at Didcot and he's used to handing out a few beatings.

Agree Cap (and not for the first tome)

Cannot believe his disingenerous comments about BM today...and...

From one who failed as a manager at the mighty Bedford Town FC......he should know

UpThePrem I'd actually be very happy with Colin coming in. Can't think of a manger with a better record than him in the Championship and apparently been speaking to a number of clubs. Hopefully one of them is us.,

Brian McDermott has a better Championship record than Colin.
Colin has never won the league at this level.....

They should call you clueless not nameless. He won it with QPR in 2011

Sometimes I wonder if anyone in here actually watches football.

I think you'll find the Football League strippedQPR of their title retrospectively due to their massive breach of FFP.

Making the decision to sack a popular manager wasn't easy. But they want success. And you and I want success. So would BM have brought us success? Almost certainly not. They're probably "thinking Leicester" right now and why not? So who is most likely to deliver that? Maybe one or two in your list. But for Reading to be successful depends upon to a degree upon all of us "knowing" we can do it which we did when SteveC took us up but I sense isn't felt by many of the posters here who are wearing negative specs.

We didn't need this sort of hiring and firing sack culture to get that promotion, we needed people who cared about the club and wanted to build something, however long it took.

Forbury Lion As we are now the Leeds United of the South, I predict that we will re-hire Brian McDermott in the next couple of days as our manager.

Or reappoint Steve Clarke!

Pearson had 4 years to lay the foundations.

Reading have spent the past 3 years going backwards as a club.

Reading have missed the bus. (I've seen better football played by league one sides this season.)

There is no management level. Only Nigel Howe. Who one assumes is now purely a PR voice piece .

NH no doubt could happily retire. Or simply look after SJM's other ventures. Like Hammond has been with the club 20 years. SJM had a house built some years back out near Streatley.

Thanx for that....but I already knew

Our last bastion of the "original Reading" under threat by the thais was my limp intonation

Eaststandman Anybody currently managing a comedy club would be appropriate surely, or perhaps a compere from an amusing tv show perhaps, Stephen Fry, or Alan Davies would be an ideal appointment IMHO
yeah, but was thinking more about the size 48 shoes and a big painted smile myself.

Hoping the Thais can bring in some of their cuisine to the concourses.......nothing much else to be gleaned from them for us the supporters

Well, thats next year's kit sorted, all we need now is a colourful coach on which we can get the entire away support with the special wheels that fall off when the coach turns over!

Why the fcuk not? He'd done it before, which tends to be an indicator of future performance. You know horse shit.

Under the circumstances McDermott was probably just as likely to get us promoted as anyone else.

I.e not very.

Leon, you're right - maybe BM could've delivered success but I wouldn't have put my beer money on it. The key question is "What constitutes success?" My guess is that the various people involved will give different answers depending upon their degree of investment - which includes both financial and emotional - and the "return" they would like. My financial investment is effectively zero but my emotional investment is 49 years of being a supporter. The Thai owners are at the opposite end of the spectrum - millions of pounds invested over only a couple of years. Promotion to the Premiership under SC was "perfect success" for me at the time. But with "smaller" clubs like Leicester, Saints, Watford etc showing it can be done then I think "why not Reading?" Also occasionally there's an Ipswich, Blackburn or Leicester winning the top division. I read BM's sacking as an indication that the owners want success for Reading although I accept that the way it is achieved is as important as the success itself. Apologies for my rambling on.

The club is certainly moving in a different direction and I strongly suspect that the new manager has already been approached and is ready to be announced soon

This is exactly the sort of time some sort of statement of direction or intent from the owners would be great.
